Typical cost to rebuild motor if I supply parts?

So I bought a rebuild kit and I've been planning on buying another motor from the junkyard. The motor that I'm using to mock up the parts for my turbo has a cracked block so it's unusable. Anyway, my plan all along has been to do everything in my garage, but things have changed a little bit. My house is going up for sale and I’m moving into an apartment, which will leave me with nowhere to do the rebuild. Once the engine is rebuilt and installed I can take the car over to my friend’s place and install the turbo in his driveway. I have enough time to finish the mock-up in my garage and after that I need to start moving stuff into storage.

So anyway, I’m wondering what a good price would be to take my parts to an engine shop and have them rebuild the motor for me?

Well when I asked around it was close to 1500 from most shops.
I will end up rebuilding mine or buying a new.

$1500 to do what? Just a standard rebuild? Hell I can buy a whole engine AND have it installed. Rebuilt LN2s go for about $1100 or so online.

A rebuild would only be worth $350 to $700 depending on what you ask for...leak down, specify cross-hatch angle, hot tank clean, ect...

I plan to. But since I've always done my own engine work - or had hook-ups where I could get it done for considerably less than any shop ever would - I want to know what it's worth so I'm not getting BS'd into paying more than I should. I seriously don't know what it would cost. Some places charge close to full price jsut becaue you didn't buy the parts through them.

heres what you do if you want to do it yourself, rent a storage facility. can range from $50 to $100 a month, but at least you can rebuild your engine yourself.

Keep calling places up and try haggling with them and see if they can go cheaper.

I want to share something with you - the three sentences that will get you through life. Number one, 'cover for me', Number two, 'oh, good idea, boss', Number three, 'it was like that when I got here.'

yeah ok thats a great idea, piss the people off your trying to deal with. its people like you i love to throw out of the shop and tell to come back if you ever have money. You get what you pay for and if you want quality expect to pay for it.
