Potential Product Production - 2.3 HO - 2.2 Ecotec Adapter Flanges INTEREST?
Thursday, January 04, 2007 9:18 AM
Looking to see if there is a market for 2.3-2.2 Adapter flanges to utilize the 2.3 HO intake manifold on the 2.2 Ecotec engine.

I am currently seeing if a flange is possible to be designed and produced. I am now looking for a donor head or intake manifold and I will begin measurements.

Of course it would be made of Phenolic material and have the same non heat transfering ability for lower incoming air temps. Also it would allow for an easier installation of the HO manifold which is known for its good flow.

So who would be interested?

Thanks
Chris

Use aluminum for this one Chris or you'll have stripping issues (bolt pattern isnt even close and the adapter flange will have to tapped)

I'm interested.

I also have spare eco head (stripped) and HO Manifold as well.

not 100% true

he can have a hex hole put in the flange and stick a bolt out and use that to bolt the manifold to the flange after the flange is bolts up to the eco head

a cast aluminum intake manifold , and better tb posistion for boost , and lower cost

atleast that is all i can comment on , since no one has actually dyno'd for a difference

how about the other way around? A Quad4 LO with a m62 would be nice swap potential

the m62 would be a good idea besides the fact you would need custom brackets for the charger

i'd like to see some kind of data that would support the conclusion that there was any point to doing this whatsoever.... Granted, I know the HO is supposed to be a very good manifold... but before people go running out to do a swap, maybe you all should find some way to prove that its worth doing to begin with... or you can all jump on the typical JBO bandwagon and just do mods for the sake of doing them...

if you've ever seen the stock eco manifold it goes in and down into a silencer type thing then back up into the head, i am very sure there would be a gain here.

one thing this product could enable is the use of the nice carb setup from the quad4. with a MSD distributor and carbs you could go old school on your Eco. I'd love to see what it'd put out. prolly surprise quite a few people.

i'm with Scarab...you are all just jumping to conclusion that this will be beneficial in anyway. granted the manifold is supposed to be good for the 2.4 and the 2.3 quad four but the ecotec is a totally different engine and design.

has there even been prove yet that its benefical on the 2.4 twin cams? or just the typical ass dyno deing done?

When i had to run my 2.4 N/A fo a while I had a stock 2.4 manifold on it. 4500 RPM was where the car fell flat on its face, with the HO manifold it pulled till near revlimit. This is based on runs against a friends Eco. When I installed the HO TB it pulled even better. I know that the Eco uses a large TB to start with so that part of the gain is gone. Based purely in looking at the manifolds and what happens with the 2.4 I would have to say that it would be bennificial.
