I have a 96 z24.
For those that have a 96-99 engine with the non boost reading ecu.
I was reading the supercharger sticky and it says that we need a FMU, AFPR...ect?
Would it be easier to swap out my ecu to a 2000 so I can avoid all those steps...?
Also I will be starting my build soon once I make my mind up.
What is all involved in doing a ecu swap? Do I need the wiring too?
If I stay with the 96 build and turbo what would all be needed as far as electroics/tuning..?
As far as the engine parts... .020" overbore, 2.3l oil pump swap, wiesco pistons, eagles rods, secret cams, 086 head, .074 gasket, H.O intake manifold/TB....
Also what compression will I get with the 086 head, .074 gasket and lets say 9:1 pistons? Or Do I need different pistons to get a low CR..? Or p&p the 2.4 head with oversize valves, springs....ect... more costly tho.
Thanks for any input. I need a much info a possible thanks again!
with the 086 head, i dont think you can use that wiht the gm charger.
but you can for a turbo. with the 086 CR goes to over 11:1 with stock compression and that would be to high for boost. id say get 7:1 pistons

Im a Xbox 360 fanboy...and damn proud of it!!
Do they make such pistons? The lowest I saw was 8:9:1. Forget the charger! Im going turbo....
Contact Karo at Carcuatoms.net her can get you what you want.
Piston wise...and others.

If I was you I would get a 97-99 ECU. This way you can use HPT to tune your car and do a fake 2 bar set-up. If you really want to get a 2000+ ECU so you can use the GM reflash you will need a lot of wiring to change over. If it was me I would go with 11:1 compression and boost. It is not too high boost. You just have to have great tuning.

^^ is this just plug and play? im thinking stock compression wiesco pistons with a .020 overbore...Im not sure what im going to do tho...... i really want to use the 086 head to save some money. Thanks for any input. Danny.

To stay plug and play at a good price get a 97-99 engine bay harness and eCU and swap it into your car, then you can use HPT to tune.

^ thats what I need! Now it I wanted tho use the 086 head.... thanks for any input! Danny.
I had the same questions you have when I was getting info on the 086 head with the LD9 motor. Karo emailed me and figured out to stay at a 10.0:1 CR you would have to get 8.5:1 CR Pistons which is a custom job. It takes 3-5 week to make the pistons and your looking at and extra $50+ for the custom job.

^^^ sounds like my route. Is there a way to get close to stock compression or lower or is that fine or close enough... I guess my question is will this not be to high for boost? Sorry if i have a lot of questions... Just trying to learn without getting burned

Thanks!
there is a boost fourm for this stufff
^ thanks. now for the people that actually want to help.
