No Oxygen sensor???
Wednesday, January 10, 2007 2:44 PM
Hi, I changed my spark plugs and found then too dark, running rich probably so I was looking for the o2 sensor and donīt have one at least in the header (it is a pace setter) and for sure not in the cat. since here in Caracas most cars do not have catalytic converters or people just dump them at the first sign of clogging. The Pace Setter header has has a plug so there is where it should go I guess, OK go to the store and get one... not so fast... can someone help me find or identify the wire that is for this sensor? it goes from the sensor to where? what color should it be? I guess the people that did my exhaust and put the header just cuted the wire, this should have triggered a warning light?? So I guess i will have to rewire the sensor,

it goes into the wiring harness that will be next to/under the power steering pump.

Found there a purple or brownish wire about 6 inches long with a connector somethig less than 2 inches long and with a kind of small pipe at the tip, seems to be a little short (the wire) is this what you mean? Thanks for the help.

on pace setter headers you have to use the kit they give you to extend your wiring. That shop probably decided that was too much work.

So that is the wire and connector...mmm.... I got the header from Summit and it did not bring any wire extension kit anyway it is simple to extend the wire.Just in case I will stop by the local GM dealer and get the proper O2 Sensor and maybe verify for me the right wire and connector hope that improves performance. Thanks very much for the help.

wait..

I have a 2.4 also, I didn't get any wire extenders or anything. I just opened the loom up a little bit. no extension needed.

2200's get a wire extension. For a 2.4 you have to either extend it yourself (bad idea), ir go into the wire harness and get enough slack to make it reach.

The local GM dealer in Caracas wanted $200 for the O2 sensor! So I order it from autopartswarehouse about $30. Why is it a bad idea to extend the wire by myself? If i use a heat sleeve or heat resistant wire there shoulb be no problem or should it?

The wire has built in resistance, and extended the wire messes that up. I learned the hard way.

I havenīt had any problems with them yet, but thks for the advise. The new sensor brings a cable that hopefully will be enough in length to reach the other connector.
