Here is the situation, I go to community college and commute every day and intend to move from NY to FL for school after I get my associates degree. I want to take my car to Florida with me but am not sure it will make the trip. It has never left me stranded but it is so far from stock I question the reliability.
The car is a 98 Z24, 2.4 with JE Pistons, Eagle H beams, GM SC, RC 320s, every bolt on imaginable, Meth injection, N20, Clevite Bearings, secret cams etc. Basically everything you can do to a 2.4 I have. This is the cars 3rd engine, first went due to abuse and lots of bracket racing, second was pulley after some SC miles and replaced with the built motor.
So I am weary that it will make the trip, are the aftermarket internals as good as stock along with the pistons, rings, bearing and other aftermarket internals?
I figure if the car makes it 400 miles per week for next year it should last the trip to Orlando.
So whats the furthest anyone has driven with a comparably modded car?
Chris

The car I had before my J was a 89 CRX, it had practically everything you could do to the b17 on it, minus any forced induction. The first thing I did to the car was install the b17, previous to me installing it I had headwork and new pistons on it. Practically the only thing original on the engine it was the bottom end, radiator, master and slave cylinder, and the alternator.
I drove it 30 minutes a day to work, and 30 minutes home, 6 days a week for 1 full year. Sometimes twice a day. Plus everyday driving, then I drove it to New Hampshire up Mt Washington, back to Ohio, then drove it from Chicago to Dayton, Ohio every weekend for 3 months. Never had any problems with it until the temperature gauge went haywire and my radiator cap busted causing the car to overheat.
If you have any doubt that the car will make it to your destination, just get AAA. Expect the worst, hope for the best.

i drove mine to myrtle beach last summer with all kinds of issues going on with the car at that point, lol. she made it fine though. the worst problem i had was the high as entrances to everything, i scraped the hell out of my kit, lol.
idk, i guess it all comes down to wether you trust the car or not, and if you can fix it on the way if it does break down.
I drove to Wisconsin without a hood in the rain.

Portage, MI
We drove the Grim Reaper from Fl to Ohio for the Bash in 04. I also drove my 01 Z24 there as well also the bash in 02, and many other places. My 01 Z is a factory motor with all bolt ons, but I would not think twice about getting in it and going across country right now with 80something thousand miles on it. You have a built motor (if it was built right), and you are just driving it then there should be no issuies with driving it to Fl.
FU Tuning
did a 700-800 mile each way trip this past summer with my car... zero problems, got wicked gas milage (20mpg is wicked in my books) cruising between 80-90mph.
Well, there was some problems, I couldnt hear @!#$ and mah ass hurt.

Built, bottled, ready for 11s. 14.446@93.74mph, 1.848 60' N/A.
you honestly cant compare because how much its modded/reliability will really depend on the build if you drive your car everyday without issues there shouldnt be to much more of a concern for driving it a long distance. on the highway a continuous speed, no starting and stopping just cruising your car is going to be less stressed then stop and go traffic around town.

YOu drove it from Marinette to Milwaukee 3 times and we did that 200 mile random drive when you picked your car up
My car has 118,000 miles on it and I have driven it to CA and back to AZ a few times with no issues.
I think mine was a 5 hr trip, then a 5 hr trip back for a show last year. This 07 year I plan on driving from Toronto to Georgia...Florida would be the furthest I would go.
we shall see how far I actually take her.
if you drive it everyday for the past like 8 months or something with no problems i don't see why it wouldnt make it
not saying my car is super modded, but I trust my car enough to take me home every 3 months. 700+ miles. it's also my daily driver, and my track car whenever I get the chance. I have yet to have any sort of issues with her, I take her home, treat her well, and she repays me by not breaking down on me when I need her.
if you're worried. get AAA, but honestly chris, if the car runs great, your tune is fine and everything works out I don't see why you couldn't.

if you're referring to NOPI Nationals, we'll have to meet up on the way down there...u do have to come thru Buffalo to make ur way down
Do I count?

ha ha...
In 05, I put the rebuilt engine (w/ pnp head and cams) and trans (with Team Green LSD and new clutch, etc) in the car, then put the rest of the car back together, spray-bombed it, and then the NEXT DAY drove 5 days straight across the country to the GMSC Bash in Indianapolis.... then 5 days back home.... 5500 miles around trip... ran perfect, the whole way...
I wouldn't count any of my previous trips to the bashes a "heavy modded" car... but I racked up a lot of miles on the ol' BFZ and ZM...
Lenko I remeber brian and i talking to you... didnt you put hte motor the night or week before the bash?
I drive my Cavy to KY quite a bit.
I drove from Flint MI. to West Virginia without a hood when I bought my TurboSport hood from Tabasco.
Keep in mind I drive on 215/35/19's!
Really I am looking for longevity of my internals, I really dont car about the appearence. I think the car will make it, going to be weird being in a new place, my biggest fear is not being able to work on it. Do people rent garages, that would be sweet.

out here in san diego, there's a "hobby shop" I usually go to.
it's just a garage that you can rent tools and lifts out. don't know what your situation is though.
i just add miles to my car cause i go to indy like every weekend and the farthest i have been is new jersey cause thats were i was born and i had to go for a family thingy

13.1 @ 115
First person I though of was Lenko!
Farthest I've drive mine was before the SC went in but from N.Dakota to Kentucky to St Loius (03 Bash) and then back to Kentucky and then home to N. Dakota...
Rough ride with Sportlines/konis and 18s but other than that....she made it fine!
Here in Germany Iv'e drove over 4 hours to a show and then home that night (with the SC) and no problems then either.
I think if you've taken care of the car and did the maintenence when due and know the car from modding it...you should be fine.
Eh...old man with a Corvette now...it was bound to happen sooner rather than later right?
