HO Cam part numbers
Thursday, January 11, 2007 3:11 PM
I recently won an ebay auction including a used 086 head, towers and cams. I just want to know the part numbers for the intake and exhaust cams for a HO, because I know there were LO that came with the 086. I needed the exhaust tower and head regardless, but if the cams are HO, that would be a nice perk as well. Thanks.

Casting numbers were the same for Ho's and Lo's cams. You need to mesure the lobe to know for sure.

Well that sucks.

So to measure the height, I just measure from the top of the lift to the bottom, then subtract that value from the 2.4L cams I have laying around...IIRC the 2.4L cams are .350", so if I come out with a value of .060" then they are HO or w-41 correct?

Gettho way of doing it. You mesure the lobe from the tip to the back of the cam. Then substract the size of the smaller end of the lobe.

Let make it this way, the lobe is vertical, the base is horizontale. So you substract the horizontal part from the vertical part. It will give you the lobe height.

PS: Don't mesure where the cam sit cause it may be smaller.

I didn't even think about that. Being an engineering student, you can probably see why I would try to do it ass backwards. Granted, it would net the same result, but your idea is far less convulted...Thanks again Gilles.

Holy SH*T!!! Well this is kind of funny... The whole top end was said to have come off of a "1991 Oldsmobile Cutlass Calais." OK, the head is in fact a 086...the cams however must have been replaced at some point...Here is why:

When I measured the cams, I came up with a value of .361" lift. I measured several times and kept coming up with .360-.361." So obviously I must be making a mistake, until I took a closer look at the cams:

So...

Anyone interested in some 95' quad4 I/E cams?... lol

also the end of the intake cam has the hex drive instead of the bolt hole to accept the power steering... what do you need the exhaust tower for? for the HO exhaust cam?

yes, eventually...but just as a safety precaution for right now, since the 33mm LD9 lifters barely fit over the 086 springs/retainers.
