Is there an affordable ecotec intake out yet?
Saturday, January 13, 2007 8:55 AM
I check back on here once every 6 months or so to see if a company has released an affordable intake yet for the ecotec. Has it happened yet?

Thanks

What's affordable to you? IMO any eco intake out there is affordable.

There is one company. They sell a couple different ones for every J-body motor for dirt cheap. Unfortunately they aren't very well known, and they don't post here often. It is a small company out of Silicone Valley called Echo Bay Technology Group...Members here know it better as Ebay...I hear good things.

Ebay intakes suck. Buy an AEM or K&N and be happy, they're worth the money.

2.5" Mandral bends of aluminum are 2.5" mandral bends of aluminum...The filter might not have the "greatest" surface area. But definately worth spending 1/5 the price that AEM wants to give your car 4 more HP. My car doesn't seem to hate it...and I still have the original filter it came with.

Explain yourself.

Fitment. I had an ebay intake w/K&N airfilter ended up rubbing a big hole in the elbow from hood rubbage.

and 2.5" is too small, it should be 2.75"

After having my K&N Intake, I will never buy less. You won't be dissapointed if you spend the extra money. Plus they have a great warranty and good customer service.

Cosmo doesnt fit i tryed on on my 2005 ecotec! I would say yes to a ebay intake if you had a 2.4L because i had one on mine before i got an eco it worked for the twin cam. But after reciving the susposit "ecotec intake" it didnt fit so I compaird it to a old 2.4L ebay intake its the same exact bends its a rip off doesnt fit!!!!! If you some how modifyed it to fit you would still have a big dent in your hood from the elbow!!!!! the ecotec has that bracket for the throttle cable Now their is an ebay one that will fit it is the one that goes to black box not all the way to the throttle body. It is show in ebay ads as two pipe sections and a filter that one fits. Now before you tell me i am wrong i have had both intake and i know what i am doing!!!

i had an Injen intake rub on my stock and fiberglass hood. so the big $200 intakes you see are not that great either

I didnt recommend Injen... k&n or AEM actually deal with the hood clearance issue.

I never did try a cobra head elbow, might have solved the problem...

Just got the K&N Typoon. Love it, fit great, no problems having to reach the oil filter cap like with the stocker air box setup. Love the growl the car makes now when I step on it.

Going by that AEM is 2.75 and probably every other name brand intake I can't imagine 2.25 being better. Hell that's smaller than the TB opening.

aem , k&n , injen , rk , all offer good intakes for the eco's

some are tight on a 02 eco since they have a lower hood line

and all are better than ecrapbay , warranty is also 100 times better

heh.... I have a 3" pipe on my intake that I made myself.... works quite nicely actually... just fits and no apparent hood clearance issues known to date =P
