I have a 995 head that i bought and was wondering if i should just go ahead and put it on my 95 block and get a 086 for the boost project. when i put the 995 head on my 95 quad block what else do i need to do? can i use the cams that are already on there? what gains would i see? thanks for any help

Im not to familiar with the 95 2.3 but Im prity shure the 995 head is a 94 and erlyer LO2.3. I would reuse the stock head that came on the motor. Without switching to the 086 head you wont see enough gains if any to justify switching heads.

i still wouldnt switch it..no worthy gains to justify it...but definetly save the 086 for the project engine

I would switch it. The 955 head is the second best head. It's bolt on. You take the 456 head off and put the 955 and use everything from your 95 top end.

the exaust ports on the 995 head are HUGE. should i bore out the intake manifold? ive read that if you do too much you can lose power.

You lose velocity if you go too large, which is detrimental to low end torque. Also make sure when you bore out the manifold, that you don't exceed the size of the ports of the head, so that you don't create unwanted turbulence.

what do you mean? wouldnt i want to port it out bigger to get more air? and then just size the gasket to match? if i didnt port it would the stock gasket line up?

just slap it on there, a P&P would make things nicer, but it will out perform the stock 95 head for sure. I'm glad to see you are getting use of all the stuffs. like I said, it's not the best for N/A (that's the 086 IMO) but it should be nice for a FI app with proper building.

Some guys get the bigger valves from the 086 and do the P&P with really good results. Any way you go, the head on the 95 is not that good, and if you could find the power steering stuff, I'd go for the cam tower and swap in the cams I sold you as well. You wont get the full effect of them, but it will be better. Another option is to get the 95 cam ground to the HO specs and use it in your intake cam tower, keeping your stock power steering pump.

back about 2 years ago i had a 95 z and it ran 15.7's stock. i went with a 1990 2.3 swapped it in and it was running 15.3's. i then added the H.O. inatke manifold, H.O. injectors. and the H.O. exhasut manifold, custom intake, which the car then ran s few passes at 14.8's. so i would say the 955 head will give you sum power. i know the cams have .375 lift which is a lil bigger. good luck and keep us updated
