Hello everyone,
I'm looking at buying a muffler to free up some exhaust flow and give it a deeper tone while not increasing decible by much over stock.
Here are the mufflers I was looking at:
Borla Turbo Muffler
Dynomax Super Turbo
Flow Master 60 Series
Magnaflow XL Turbo
Could anyone help me with the following questions on better helping me purchase the muffler:
1) what size should I be looking at buying?
2) are there any issues with geting an offset inlet?
3) What should my inlet be if I am running a stock exhaust otherwise?
(2")
Keep in mind this is a Supercharged 2.2L ECOTEC. And other than spark plugs and a filter those are my only modifications. Also I will not be adding any other modifications other than possibly a smaller pulley (injectors) and possibly a better intake system.
Any other good options that anybody wants to mention? I prefer for it to be an oval muffler. And I have not yet shopped for an exhaust tip either.
if you want free flow its gonna get noisey
also get the longest case length that will fit
if you wanna to get the most out of your exhaust do it all in 2 1/2"
also get a resonator , like the muffler longer = better
That's why I have been looking at the turbo mufflers because there seems to be that little extra bit of restriction that doesn't exist in the straight through mufflers. My 1st question was really trying to know what the diameter of the stock muffler is so I can stay relatively close to it. I understand that the longer it is the more it will quiet it down but I'm also trying to keep it close to the stock setup. And the reason I said 2" is because the stock exahust is 2" to the best of my beleif and that is why i was asking anyone else knew better. And also like I said I'm not replacing the full exhaust everything prior to the muffler is staying stock. Thanks though for the words.
Now with that said any advice on the mufflers I selected, would somebody pick different ones? And what are those stock dimensions?
dynomax super turbo ftw! its cheapest ($40 at summit racing), has better airflow than all the others you listed and sounds great.
I want to share something with you - the three sentences that will get you through life. Number one, 'cover for me', Number two, 'oh, good idea, boss', Number three, 'it was like that when I got here.'
So far that has been my number one choice. I just listed the rest because I wanted opinions.

Quietflows is the way to go.
This is a thread I did on it. Here it will tell you a press release on the details of the mufflers.

The best way I can best describe this muffler (Quietflow) is you here the (slightly deeper) tone of the engine and NOT the noise of the muffler. Think of the stock Infinity G35 coupe's exhaust, you here the engine's tone and not raucous.
And since you are not doing to much more and want to maintain quietness, this would be it.
If you are going full out performance, Dynomax's Ultraflow would be best, but expect lots of loudness outside and resonance. Don't go any smaller then 2.25in since you have the M62 w/10psi of boost.

the flowmaster is your best bet, sounds great and you get a decent gain of horsepower. You should get 2.25".
dynomax ftw. i still need to get a sound clip
I had dynomax ultraflow, sounded like @!#$
Put on a borla XS, oh it was so nice
