Has anyone ever seen or done a 4.3 Vortech swap in a cavalier? There is a cav. by me that has the Razzi kit on it and a few performance and racing stickers on it and he has the 4.3 badge on his trunk lid.I don't know who owns it so I haven't been able to look under the hood. I'll post some pics later

That's what i think also ,i used to have a 91' GMC Jimmy with the 4.3 Vortech,it was kind of quick but doggy at times.

Yeah, me too but that would be one sweet Cavy if it did have the 4.3. Man we had a blazer years ago had that engine, that thing was unreal the only way you could kill it is if you opened the hood and personally did damage to it yourself LOL. It drank gas, but man did it have the power on accleration you could hear us coming for a good city block i miss that engine.
yeah i'm going to ask around as to who owns it,i've seen it driven once or twice all summer and it hasn't moved all winter,it's been bugging me to know if he truly has the 4.3 in it.Pus he has some Alteeza taillights on it,maybe he'll sell them

just a thought, you could prob. tell when you see the cavi going and see if it rear or front wheel drive, so its prob a posser and just has the badge. just for the record i had a 94 ss s-10 that ran a 14.8 et at track so it was pretty quick...
Yeah Dj i agree the 4.3's were fairly quick, was nare ever a time we turned the key ours didn;t just kick right over, i should say more like roared right over it was a monster pure and simple lol.

If you had a '91 you didn't have vortec.....since that wasn't introduced until '92. I had a '93 4.3l v6 vortec blazer and it was decent, about as fast as a good 2200. Those motors are really heavy, if in a cavalier I have a feeling you'd notice the front dropped big time and it would ride like @!#$. Besides that the 4.3 is a 90 degree v6 which wouldn't fit in the engine bay. Theres too many problems with that idea, I have to call BS on that sticker.
yeah maybe i was incorrect on the year of the Jimmy, wasn't really mine, was my ex's, but i agree i think the badge is b.s. ,just wondering why someone would put that on a cav.

There was a neon in around my neck of the woods once with a primer bodykit, an aluminum wang, some stick on hood scoops, and several Dodge Magnum V8 badges on it...... It was huuularious.
if vortec didn;t come around until 92 what was the 4.3 V6 that was in our 1989 blazer, i mean i know it was throttle body.

I've got a 4.3 V6 in my '89 GMC S15, but I have no idea if it's a vortec or not... lol

most of the time you can tell if is vortec or not because it says it plane as day on the valve cover.but all the differ years had differ specs on each enign. what i had in my 94 ss was the best one by fair, 195hp and 240tq. that together makes one hell of a quick truck... and still kicking my self in the ass for wrecking it and than saling it........
I think ours was like 262 cubic inches i think maybe around 190 hp or so, don't quote me on that though i just know it was one hell of an engine.
JimmyZ wrote:I can almost guarantee that it's just a badge. The V6's used in 2nd gen J's were 60 degree v6's. The 4.3 is a 90 degree block. It's MUCH wider than a 2.8 or 3.1 and would take some serious fabrication to even get it to fit.
I'm not saying it's not possible, by any means. I'm just saying it's highly unlikely.
Yepper, alot of work. Then again, the 3.8 is also a 90 degree block and there's a bunch of Cav's running around with those swapped in. I guess the big difference (and correct me if I'm wrong) there was never a 4.3 V6 put in a FWD car, so the mounting points would be hell to fab up.
would it make a difference in terms of the drive of the car, ie is the 4.3 a rear wheel drive engine or a front wheel drive engine i'm going to say a rear wheel drive engine just hazarding a guess here only because i haven;t seen many J's with that engine in there someone feel free to correct me if i may be mistaken.

They did make non-vortec 4.3's........
If it was vortec you'd know....every vortec motor had the vortec badge slapped on the motor somewhere.
The vortec showed most improvement in the torque, mine was 190hp/230ft-lbs.
the big engine in the blazers before the vortec was introduced was the 350. good engine, torque monster. reliable as all hell.
1997 RedR - ZedR
^K5 blazer, sure.....but the 5.7 has never been put into a S-10 blazer by the factory, it a common swap tho....I dont know if we've specified which blazer we're talking about but the k5 blazer never had the 4.3l V6 (vortec or non) in it, they did have a 4.3l I6 but was nothing like the 90 degree 4.3l V6 we're talking about. I actually own a '94 K5 Blazer with the 5.7 non-vortec motor and its a beast. It doesn't have the same power as the vortec but it'll never leave me stranded since its the standard throttle body carb efi which is reliable as hell.
okay that;s what ours was we had a 1989 S10 blazer the little mini one and it had the 4.3 engine in it, you know the ones that have the little 4.3 designation on the front right below the drivers side headlight. Anyway ours had a carburetor like set up but the little designation on the front said fuel injected. So i'm pretty sure that; was a throttle body injected engine, it didn;t say vortec on it anywhere that i can recall unless it was way down underneath on the bottom somewhere.
And while we're talking about the 4.3, let's not leave out the 4.3 H.O High output engine though out here i've only seen them on the extended wheelbase astro vans. Wonder if anyone has ever done a swap with a suburban like putting a 4.3 in one of those.
I love you guys...My dad wants to try and put a 4.3 in my cavy...we desided on a 3.8s/c but that would be awsome...
Love.
