Pulley Noise
Sunday, February 11, 2007 1:13 PM
I installed my smaller crank pulley today and i wanted to go out and test drive it to make sure everything is ok. when i cranked it, it sounded like it was catching something, almost like a clicking noise. i was wondering if this was normal or if i installed it wrong. thanks.

I know on some LD9 blocks there is a BOLT directly behind the crank pulley. Make sure it is not clipping the head of the bolt. Also it could be your belt tensioner. The bolt is not present on my 99 motor, but was present on a 97 Grand am 2.4. My prototype pulley I made, had to be changed because of this problem. Also make sure that the pulley is not rubbing on the oil seal snot the the pulley sides in.

thanks for the help. i just got home from work and i wont be able to check it until after school and work tomorrow. but just a few quick questions: just wondering, why would it be the tensioner? and is it ok to drive on with it like that, atleast until tomorrow night? i drive a few miles up the road to school, then a few more to work, then back home.thanks for all the help.

Personally I wouldn't drive it, but its your car, and you need to do what you see fit. Also the oil pump arm rides on the snout of the Ecotec crank pulley. Just make sure everything looks good, and there is no interference.
