Hey I was wondering like the Ecotec has the Patriot Head is there a performance head for the LD9?
96 CAVALIER Z24 UNDER CONSTRUCTION
there is not enough demand for patriot to make one
justget yours p&p, 3 or 5 angle valve job, etc etc

Im a Xbox 360 fanboy...and damn proud of it!!
you could also do the 086 head swap from an older "HO" Quad 4,
There is alot of work involved in the swap though, from what i've read the gains are worth it

Just buy an LD9 head off of ebay and take it to a local machine shop and have them race port it.
I have been looking for a head on ebay now for about 2 weeks and have seen nothing for the 2.4L....
~Boost. Its what's for dinner!~
i have 2 used 2.4 heads sitting here. let me know if you want one, we can work something out...
086 yum yum !. Rebuilt off Rockauto for 416 + shipping.

WOW, what a rip off, I could get two for that price from J&C on ebay....~$235.00 shipped
Thats a ridiculous price for that head. With mild performance parts on an 086 you could do it much better and for less money.
I do not think anyone ever bought one.

screw that overpriced head!!!
id like to know where i can get the crower valve train!
I wrote crower and provided the link to the web site, asking them if they still sell these valvetrain parts and where I could find them. Lets see if they write back.

Those valve train parts are NOT from a 2.4 or 2.3 engine. Heck, its not even off a GM application. They take the parts from a different car manufactures application, modify it so it will work with the 2.4L GM Application. What they modify I have no....
So Crower wont know anything about it...
I would go with the 086 head, there is not that much to getting it to fit on the 2.4. You have to drill out the water passage on the head because it is smaller than the water passage on the block. That is it, get some ARP head studs and your ready to rock and roll, of course you would have to get the 2.3 HO Exhaust Manifold as well. Or get the flange fromt he 2.4 Exhaust Manfiold and have it fitted and welded onto the 2.3 HO Exhaust Manifold. Match that with the 2.3 HO Intake Manfiold and the 56mm TB, with a 2.5" exhaust and if your wanting to get serious get ahold of Karo and Car Customs and have him send you a set of custom made forged pistons 8.5:1 CR so you will have a CR of 10:1 in the end with a set of Secret Cams. I'm going to throw out some rough numbers for prices. I'm sure I'll be corrected on anything if I'm wrong.
086 Head: $245.00
8.5:1 Forged Pistons: $500.00
Forged Eagle Rods: 350.00
ARP Head Studs: $157.00
HO Exhaust Manifold: $75.00
HO Intake Manifold: $60.00
56mm Throttle Body: $50.00
Secret Cams: $130.00
2.5" or 3" Exhaust: $200.00
So you can do all that for about $1500, or just buy an extra LD9 Head and have it machined. But I guarantee you that you wont come close to the power you would get out of the 086 swap. I think I remember a few people saying with this setup it is estimated to hit around the 210hp range NA. So those are some pretty nice #'s if that is true.
In the planning stage for an all American TRD Cavalier.
I know this is the performance forum, but wanted to know if anyone had any input on how well the 086 head swap works with boost?

No Joe White was out of Texas.... He is talking about the guy from Canada.... Silver 00+ 2.4L Z24... cant think of his name off the top of my head... Chris? Mark? Sorry dont remember.
The springs say for street or race, but that is obviously a "race only" head. Without some sort of VVT, it is next to impossible to get our motor reving near 10,000 rpms and still be streetable. I will acknoledge the few who need to rev higher than 8000, but the HO springs are more than adaquate for nearly everyone on JBO. A port & Polish, valve job and HO springs on a LD9 head....or polished 086 head....both with stainless valves are all that anyone driving their cars on the street will ever need.

"Youth in Asia"...I don't see anything wrong with that.

i'm with this guy. Anyone have any info on how it holds up to anywhere from 8 to 15 psi?

The question should be does Crower actually offer valvetrain parts for a LD9. I called and talked with "Dave" @ Crower and was told;
If I can provide spring and valve measurement data for the LD9, Dave will research Crower parts for a fit. I await an email from Dave with the specific measurements required. I believe it is like spring height, inner and outer diameter, and valve stem diameter, but I admit to being a newbie learning his way through my first LD9 rebuild. Many here may even have this data tattoo'd on their chest, while I must go find it.
