loosen the tension on the serp belt and remove the belt, then take out the bolt for the pulley and it will slip right off, nothign is pressed in to place.
I'm sure we have traveled this road before Darkstars (I know it was one of you Eco guys). That may be the case for the Ecotec... but unless you posses the strength of Hercules, the LD9 and quads need a wheel/pulley puller to remove the crank pulley.
You do everything Darkstars said, then...
1. take the long threaded rod and thread it through the center of the pulle until a small portion of it comes out the other end.
2. Place the cone looking piece on that small end of the rod
3. There are 3 loops on the pulley puller, and 3 bolt hoes in the pulley. You might have to use washers or what not, but you need to run a a bolt through the puller and into the pulley. Try and get the puller close enough to the pulley so that when you remove the pulley, it will clear the body of the car.
4. Hardest part is to find a way to counter the torque you are going to apply to the pulley. We cut a piece of metal that fit through two bolts of the puller. then we slipped a bar over it and used the lower A-arm to counter the torque.
5. Tighten the large center rod until the pulley comes off.
I'm sorry if this sounds confusing...I would have just redirected you to the NY-Jbdies write up, but I think their site is down. Maybe someone else could explain it better for you.

"Youth in Asia"...I don't see anything wrong with that.
Guys,
He's talking about the bolt so he can USE the pulley puller......
At least thats how I understand it.
You kinda have to wedge a decent thicknes screwdriver to anchor the pulley.
Then counter clockwise as best you can to ger the dang thing off.
You may need a breaker bar, and yes it will take some muscle.

Remember....syringes go in the RED waste basket.
Or if you have a compressor and an impact, that seems to work just fine for me

Some aftermarket pulleys are solid and dont have "spokes" or something where you can wedge something in there to keep the crank from moving. Most stock pulleys do though.
I had to get my ffp pulley off my 3x00 and just bought a cheap 18 volt cordless impact, had enough power to get the crank bolt off. Its better with impact incase you dont have a good way to keep the crank from moving.
A pulley puller is a must on any 2.3 or 2.4 engine. Also a big screw driver or the stock lug nut wrench will work fine, to keep the pulley from spinning while loosing the bolt.

If you do not have a air compressor to remove the bolt them since you are a manual car have someone help you and put a screw driver on the teeth of the flywheel while you are taking the bolt off.

Use the bolt hole on the pulley ONLY. Don't use any 3 finger puller that pull the side of the pulley. the 2.3 pulley (the one I have) are 2 pieces and you will split them appart.
you need a puller that look like this
or any puller with a 3 bolt pattern

Manual car --- put it in 5th gear and have someone press the brakes.
Auto --- see above quote.

We tried this and it did not work. That is why we put a screw driver in the flywheel. When we tried this it turned the motor anyways. Yes it was in 5 gear.

jam a wrench in the pulley and use a strong ratchet or johnson bar (johnson bar is your best bet) with a some piping for some leverage and it will come off. you might need to use a pieace of wood to suppurt the ratchet because the ratchet will be far away from the bolt. look in the faq for a walkthrough
