Pacesetter Header Differences?

Hi all,

What are the differences between the Pacesetter Header that is made for the '96-'98 vs. the one made for the '99+?

So, say I could get a good deal on one that's designed for the 99+ that I would want to use on my 98. Any chances of getting it to work?

yes it will bolt right up. the head port pattern is the same. but you will lose connection through the head to your egr valve. causeing problems. its just easier to get the one designed for your car.

headers are identical , except the egr port

you could grind a channel in the flange from the #4 exhaust port to the spot where the hole in the head would be , but this would only work for the newer designed header that has a flat flange where the gasket sits

the older 1's with the welded o-ring ports , you have to make a weld channel and have to machine the welds flat and make sure not to remove to much from the other ports , or youll have to keep welding and machining

or just get the right header for the job

its alot easier to use the egr header on the non-egr models , then it is the other way

unless your not going to use the egr

Alright, I guess good deal be damned! Doesn't sound like an easy thing to get done. Oh well, guess I'll keep on searching for a good deal that works.

Thanks everyone for your views!

What kind of problems would happen if it was blocked and the car did have a erg on it?

egr system wouldnt work anymore since there would no longer be a path from the exhaust to the intake. you'd get a CEL i believe. other than that it shouldnt hurt. but if youre gonna do that u might as well just take the whole system out and buy the block off plate. (not overly challenging) but if you go that far you will definately get a CEL.
