Hey guys, just got my header all tightened up and I am pretty sure it is no longer leaking. However, I have one problem still left, it sounds like the header itself is gargling anybody know what this could be? I am starting to think it might me the cat but i am not sure, also the exhaust is loud as hell now is this normal? BTW its the RKSPORT 4-2-1 and i used a new gasket any help would be appreciated, thanks ahead of time
Ive got the pacesetter 4-1 header and I used the gasket that came with it and I have a header leak like crazy. Your better off getting an after market gasket and make sure you torque those bolts correctly starting at the center and working your way out.
Watch out there nah!
well the only thing is i got a new gasket from the gm dealership the one that costs eleven bucks, my old one was in two pieces, so did you mean the two gaskets from the midsection(where it goes four to two)?
nice you tighten up the bolts in sequence ? and balls ? i pretty sure thats it.. or it might be were it meants the exhuast get under there and check
Bolts were tightened up in sequence, from center out, but what do you mean by balls? i feel kinda like i should know what that is, but other than that I did check where it met up at the exhaust its about as tight as I wanna make it because I know those f***ers are probably gonna snap if I tighten them anymore.
just bumpin this up there
With a header your exhaust will get louder. Being that you have the RKS header, the tone will change and it will kinda sound like if you have some wild cams as you accelerate. Blame that tone on the 4 primary tubes, 2 short ones and 2 long ones. Because of that, that may be the reason you here it "gargling"---- it is the design.
As long as you got the new gasket and re-tighten the bolts after roughly 250-500 miles, you should be fine.

thank you i appreciate it so much, i have been trying to figure this out and getting no help. However i think something is still messed up it kinda sounds like its still leaking. what works best for testing for exhaust leaks blowing cigarette smoke? stethoscope? soapy water while it's cold? what?
take it to a exhaust shop
i recently got a obx 4-1 header installed. it changed the sound like you can hear the cylinders fireing or something. i think it is because the pipes are separated for longer. i think a larger resonator would help.

Soot. Look at all the spots where it is bolted, if you see black soot marks, then that's where it's leaking.
When it is not leaking, it should be clean in all of its connections.
Best of luck.

yeah i saw that in one of the posts i found and remarkably no soot what so ever. I went through one more time and tightened what was "loose" and now its beautiful, and sounds great.
