ECOTEC INTAKE ? (has any1 ever)
Tuesday, February 20, 2007 5:53 PM
I was wondering if any1 ever tried to custom build a intake out of a reasonable gauge sheet metal? Well I wont to try to make a short square intake go to the front of the car in the top grill in front of the top part of the radiator. Their is about a 2 5/8'" clearance with the hood closed.
Strait off the Tb and out the grill? Possible or stupid?

hmmm... intriguing but i think it would almost be like running straight throttle body. I've done that a couple of times and i really lost a lot of low end torque. If i am wrong on this one somebody will correct it lol

hmm yea it would kinda be like running straight TB. but in the same aspect because of the place your mounting it, it kinda functions as a ram air. try it and see what happens. just make sure you extend your iat sensor over to it so you dont get a CEL.

thats completely wrong. Buy a cheap 2.4 z24 intake. Fits perfect. and it runs from the tb as well. I have one and it fits perfect.

Yep just make sure the iat sensor bong looks correct size. You can actual eye ball it from the picture and figure for yourself. If you cant post up one you find and I will tell you if it will fit or not. If you cant find one tell me

I have the RKSPORT ECOTEC intake on my 02 and it fits PREFECT!

I have a 2.4 Intake on my 03 and your wrong, Fits like CRAP. Touches the hood liner and TOO close to the throttle linkage.

Back on topic, the Ram Air home made intake sounds like a good idea. If you can get it over the Radiator support and not hit the hood. Let's us know.

Also a pic of a 2.4 intake on a Eco is in my profile under my 2003.

I have th rksport on an 04 and it does fit well, however it fits so close to your positive batt. terminal that you could arcweld a ratchet to the intake tube if your not careful.

Hey i got the same one and have the same probs. Too close to battery terminal, hits hood liner, and sometimes if i just let the hood slam shut it will push on the throttle linkage and it will idle at 1500 rpms. Also mounting the elbow on the throttle body was really tight.

LOL Im wrong about a part thath as been on my car for over 8 monthes...lol im wrong ok. Its all about fitment you obviously just threw the plumbing together and it didnt fit so you complain//
try getting a nice fitment with the black plumbing from the throttlebody.

i thought you had to have a filter on the intake to keep dust and stuff out of the engine?

You have to find one with a wider IAT sensor bung. or just widen it yourself with a drill bit. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/JDM-95-02-Chevy-Cavalier-Z24-2-4L-Cold-Air-intake-Kit_W0QQitemZ290086530324QQihZ019QQcategoryZ38634QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
i have one similar to that but the exact one I have, i cant find it. that is the closest one to mine.

just spend the money and buy one thats made for your car by a real company. K&N, RK Sport, etc. youll be happier and better off in the end. many of us have been the cheap route many times, it always ends with the purchase of a proper part in the end.

I'm possibly considering doing this with the CavFire... prolly will be able to use the pipe & all from the current intake setup... just gotta change it around a little... who knows, we'll see what happens when I pop the hood & start looking around =)
