WAI installation

I plan on getting a warm air intake off of ebay, but I don't know how hard they are to install. From a look under the hood, it looks like all I have to do is remove the stock airbox and bolt on the WAI right? What tools are usually required? Also, I heard warm air is just as good as cold air, for some reason I'm still wanting to get a cold air because... well it takes in cold air, I've heard the temp difference is only of 2 degrees, probably not worth it, but then what really is the difference of getting a warm air over the stock airbox? thanks

To install an intake its not to bad. Just remove the old and and put in the new. Also if you would update your profile we would be able to help you better especially since the intakes for different models are different.

the gain over a stock intake is the fact ofthe pipe, its smooth and has a large filtter on the end as opposed to the stocker which is a ribbed piece of rubber with a relatively small filter.

Lol, sorry about that, I've got a chevy cavalier 2002 ls 4dr. Yea, I know that a wai is definately better than stock, I just haven't had the time to open up the stock airbox and disect it to check it out, so I didn't really know the difference. Oh, and also, I have no way of raising the car in any way, so is lifting it required to install a wai? OH, also, I think I figured out why a CAI is just as productive as a WAI and not more. Well if you figure, the metal of the pipe is about twice as long with a turn right? well it's also attached to the engine so it's just as warm as the engine, thus making the air warmer especially when it hits that curve in the pipe were it would then expand as it gets warmer and by the time it hits the TB then it's about as warm as the air from a WAI, only thing I can think of that will back the performance of a CAI is that it sucks in cold air and it expands in the pipe, so it's technically sucking in more oxygen whether or not it's cold at TB or not.

do u have a 2200 or the Ecotec engine? If you got a 2200, I think all U'll need is a screwdriver n u juss unhook teh stock box. U mite have to take teh battery out for like 5 seconds to take the actual box off cuz their is a lil bolt right under the battery...its been a while since I hooked mine up so my memory is a lil sketchy. Then to take off the "2200" box juss look around it n u should find where its bolted on n juss unbolt it n unhook it from the TB.

no more cavy...now 240 =]

I see a cool-air intake
It's got a NOS-fogger system and a T-4 turbo
I see an A.I.C. controller
It has direct port nitrous injection
Yeah, a stand-alone fuel management system
...Not a bad way to spend $10,000

I installed mine on my 02 not too long ago, here's what it consisted of: Open the hood, take your OEM intake hose off (with this gone removing the box is easier), I didn't have to move or take out the battery, just use an extension to remove that little bolt/screw on the front of the air box. Then find the big rubber chunk that is squeezed into the metal ring stickin of the firewall, take a flathead and pry it out of there, and vuala! wiggle a little bit and the stock box is out. Then just connect and tighten down your new intake to the opening that runs to the TB. Took me a whole 10 minutes to accomplish.

one more thing, if you have a manual, you'll need to relocate you clutch reservoir, as its attached to the airbox.

Nah, no manual thank god, if I did then I'd have a civic, but I'm not a rice-head, so that thought went out the window a while back. So all I gotta do is remove the air box and stock air tube with a screwdriver? sweet! Now I just gotta get me a wai. Any ebay brands recommended? Thanks Ps, I have a 2200.

the cheapest brand is the one to go with. just get a decent filter like a k&n to replace the filter that comes with it.

I have a 2000 cavalier 4 door with a 2200 engine in it, non ECO of course. If I were to install a WAI on the car would it make a perceptible difference in performance? I mean a gain of 8hp ( I think thats what the FAQ said). Could I see that? my car is just sluggish from a stop and I was wondering if some simple mods like this might help.

Thanks

Oh yeah I know dick about cars pretty much. I am learning and reading a lot though. So this is a starter project and it seems very simple for a non gear head like me. So far I have just done interior mods nothing in the engine. I know a 2200 is just a little guy compared to the 2 bigger one, but hey we all need to start at some point

True, true, we all started somewhere and we're all constantly learning more and more every day.

Hey, I finally get my intake this afternoon via FedEx, can't wait.
