some quick questions
Monday, March 12, 2007 10:19 PM
1. im looking for an intake for my 00 cav. it is a 2.2L but it has 220sfi on the top of the motor... will any 00 suitable 2.2 intake fit or do i need a special one?

2. fuel injectors, im looking to increase power by using bigger injectors, what would be a good size set to get?

3. 4,2,1 header or 4,1 header? also looking to get rid of the rusty stockness of my 92,000 mile cavalier

4. spark plugs and wires. im running ac-delco platinum plugs, would new wires help these plugs perform? if so recommend a size?

5. any other easy installation tips or products you have used to increase some power easily.

i read the FAQ and it didnt help me out very much. so please dont say search. haha thanks guys

any intake made for 2200 sfi would fit

dumping more feul into the engine wont increase power. bigger injectors are used for boost and high power NA engines.

a 4-2-1 header gives more low to mid range power. 4-1 gives more top end. id say just pick one. ceramic coated is best

8.5 mm should be enough for your bolt on parts

make sure you do your research first before buying a part. or from buying from a company. and search first. just because your first click of the search button didnt yeild any results, try to rephrase your wording

i guess i asked my first question wrong... all im seeing are cold air intakes for 2.2L cavalier, i dont know if there is a difference between 2.2 and 2200sfi... i am pretty sure they are interchangeable BUT i see the pictures for the cai's and it doesnt look like they will fit my cav. does the plenum on top stay there? or is that removed? ive worked on my friends fire and 02 cav eco. but they seem to be a litle bit dif. from what ive got..

so fuel injectors would be a waste at this point?

Ok the 2.2 changed to a 2200 in 98, the head was redesigned and the intake manifold and throttlebody setup is completly different, so make sure you buy one for 98 or newer. Its still the same old 2.2 but upgraded to a more efficient fuel system.

I would say yes fuel injectors would be a waste.

My suggestions are go to a junk yard and get a throttle body from a motor like yours and get a throttle blade from an eco like your friends. Take them to a machine shop and get the throttle body bored out to match the larger ecotec blade. I did this with my 2.4 and it cost about $75 total although prices vary from location. Get the header and exhaust, even a 2.25" exhaust with a stock like muffler would help you. Also they say that the most restrictive point of this motor is the head so removing the head and getting it ported and polished is the best thing you could probably do then again thats not exactly easy to do. Haha if the motor is that far disassembled you might as well change the cam too.

like i said. only need for bigger injectors is boost or high power NA. even with all the bolt-ons you can get you wont even need bigger injectors.
you can get them and put them in if you want, but all that would be doing is wasting gas

alright thanks for the info, im tryin to get into the whole engine deal. money and time are slowing my progress... glad i found this site...

so as long as the intake is for 98 + 2.2 it should fit? good, im getting a paycheck next friday and im going to be buying the intake right away. along with my new side mirrors, and plug wires.
