rk sport cool air intake
Saturday, April 14, 2007 11:03 AM
I just got the rksport cool air take and the instructions are definitely not as helpful as i expected. Am i completely taking out the air filter housing and stock air intake duct? Where does the s tube side with the filter end up in or does it snake down into the part of the fender with the silencer? Even when i took the battery out i couldnt figure out how the intake is going to fit. I have a decent knowledge of whats going on as well as a couple of friends who work on cars all the time and they r stumped by this intake i guess theyre use to working on japanese cars. I hope this question doesnt sound too much like a newbie but this intake is confusing as hell especially with those fantastic directions. I have a 2001 2.4L Cavy

from the looks of it it goes on the end of your stock s tube. then the filter goes in where the "bong" was

Just take the whole box out, if you have an intake you no longer need it.

?
Damn man it is just an intake! Holy mechanically uninclined lol.

I don't think it goes into the fender well, it probably just goes over behind your battery like most of the intakes do on the 2.4's. The looks of it seems like it does. Just put the rubber 90* bend on the tb, and the filter on the other end. It is not real difficult! Good luck man lol.

i believe it would be mechanically declined

the old RK cool air intake just replaces the filter box and bong, remove the filter box (yes the whole thing) from under the hood. you will need to move the battery to get it out. then, remove the "bong" resonator assemlby from inside the fender well. after that...it should be fairly obvious how the RK piece fits.

see thats what i thought.....trust me guys i know how easy a cool air intake is to put in but the way the pipe was bending it was very confusing especially with the "fantastic" directions. i did everything u said ronin i think i spent too much time tryin to get the lower part out where the silencer is and made it more confusing than it actually and i appreciate u guys not completely burning the piss out of me love hahaha

^^^ My Sunfire about 6 years ago. Start off by removing the airbox in the engine bay. Then you take the tire and wheel well liner off, unbolt and remove everything in there associated with the intake system (basically all the black plastic) and insert the tube (intake) into the wheel well from the top. You can see how it attaches to the stock S-tube and expansion box. It really isn't rocket science. It's also a very poor and chintzy design. Eventually, you make the upgrade to:

no need to take the tire off, just turn it^

Yes to everyone, if you bought an intake, just take all that silencer/bong crap out of there(the weight is holding you back ..haha )Remove your factory air box, and if you have a manual, ziptie the clutch fluid resevoir anywhere. My Induction Dynamics full Cold Air Intake took about 45 minutes to install.
