any HP suggestions for a 1996 2.4L
Monday, April 16, 2007 4:06 PM
I race a 96 Sunfire on a dirt track. The class is "supposed to be stock" so i need some suggestions on how I can make more HP relatively cheap and be able to hide it. What is this short ram intake and HP tuner and where can I find one. If someone knows the prices that would be helpful too. Right know the engine is stock and im not able to run a header. Any bolt ons available?

there is a intake (ebay is a good place to start) anywhere from $40 to $250
HPtuner is tuning software. you also need lap top for it (HPtuner website is good for that) $650 for the pro version
there is a lightened crank pulley, cams

Im a Xbox 360 fanboy...and damn proud of it!!

Any internal engine work. Overbore cylinders, Knifedge crankshaft, etc. Also lightened pulleys like he said, engine mounts, tranny mounts, sway bars and strut bars (paint them flat black probably), stuff like that.

Well since you wanting to keep it stock (or at least look stock), internal engine work may be best.

Since your running the 2.4L TC(LD9) motor, you may want to look at the Quad 4 parts.

Especially the 086 head - as (from what I've heard) it will increase increase engine air flow as well as raise stock CR, Also you may want to add to this the Quad 4 TB (56mm instead of 52mm -in the LD9), and possibly the H.O valves, springs & cams. My understand is this will wake up the LD9 motor - and will likely make it very hard to spot by anyone that not very familar with the 2.3L Quad 4's & 2.4L TC motors.

Also the larger injectors may be needed or least a new higher flow fuel filter & pump. also reprogramming the ECM would help.

Maybe a 2.3 LO or HO intake manifold swap and use a quad 4 IDI cover.

Well - since it's a "Stock" class - the '95 GT had the Quad 4 motor.

So a swap to a H.O. Quad 4 would also be a great swap with a L.O. cover - it would look kie the stock motor out a '95 Sunfire GT.

The H.O. Quad 4 motors were found mostly in the N-bodies(Pontiac Grand Am, Olds Calais, & Chevy Beretta ) between '91-'94. The Best motor especially for racing is the W41 motor found in the Olds Calais.

The standand H.O. motors pumped out 170-180hp, depending on the year. While the W41 motors were more like 185-190hp - found from '92-93 models.

To found the motor parts - check the local salvage yards
