Fuel pump issues
Wednesday, May 02, 2007 5:41 PM
hey, I installed a walbro 255lph and I was having fuel cut at 1/4 tank, and I am having intermittant misfire.. and my fuel pressure drops from 70 to 55 psi.. so I am having a fuel supply issue... how do I install the pump correclty.. I am likely buying a new walbro 190 and maybe the ecotec surge tank.(what is different with the eco vs 2000-2002 tank)

I really need to fix this issue.

*I searched though a ton of older posts and can't find the info I need, I know it is out there.. . some where

i say run the stock pump and a inline fuel pump. you never hear of people haveing problems with that set up. i too have the walbro pump and i am not impressed. i was boosted, but not to more so i should shove a stock pump back in there. .

good luck

I have had a msd inline on one of my last turbo setups... that thing was super noisey. I am really looking for a new intake solution. Apparently Mr.Pute might have some good information for me. I am thinking I will try an inline to verify that I am having fuel supply issues.

i think this is what you are looking for

http://www.j-body.org/forums/read.php?f=40&i=120401&t=108963#120401

Thats what I used for the fuel cup cutting, but i havent installed the unit in tank yet, so I cant tell you that the information works for sure.

good luck, and keep me posted on progress as i will be doing the same.

thanks for that link, but I am interested in not cutting the cup. I notice in those pictures that the ecotec and the 2000-2002 tank has a slightly different design. Any one know what is different and does the ecotec surge tank work better???

i didnt cut my cup..i put it back the exact same way the stock one was in..only modifications is the brass nipple i had to form out of i think it was 3/16th brake line...i cut it down to like a 1/2 inch and jammed in the orphis to make a nipple. then re-connected the line that goes on that nipple...and i had to jam some rubber in between where the pump sits so that it doesnt move around..its a tad smaller then the stock one in diameter. No fuel cutoff what so ever...but if you think about it...why would it?? its sitting the exact same way the stock one was /shrug..everything is connected to it like the stock one was =p

I am searching through all the old posts, and I come up with the one main thread, but the info doesn't talk about the eco/LD9 differences.. looking for any pics or ideas...(keeping in mind)
1)I don't want to cut the cup
2)I have read that I have to and that I should NOT attach the brass fitting
3)I need a solution, and I will buy a new pump or entire setup, but I need this fixed. (if 03+ is better I would use that)

some links I have found:

http://www.intense-racing.com/walbroinstall.html --- this is the GTP install of the pump.. I don't have that little brass thing.. hmmm, this link talks about not using the sock on the Walbro pump, and I have heard some people say, "use the stock sock" (double sided or something)

http://www.cardomain.com/ride/417287/8 -- pics of a members install (sweet ride too)

so where exactly does this brass piece go??

i've got some questions as well. my LD9 is being built up as we speak, and i'm going to be running about 200 at the wheels all motor, and i'm just wondering if the stock fuel pump will be able to deliver enough fuel or what pump i should get to go with a set of RC 320cc low impendence injectors. (sorry to thread jack "ge")

not sure what people have run for max numbers on a stock pump.. I am sure 220-230whp is possible, but for $100-125 why risk losing fuel pressure

Yes, use the GTP walbro from Intense.. I have that in my car right now.. It is plug and play, you dont have to cut the cup or anything.. Ive had my car below a 1/4 tank with no fuel cut.. You dont even have to re-wire anything to put this pump. And no, you dont have to use that sock.. The only sock im using is the stock one on the BOTTOM of the cup, none on the pump.

Yup, WFP-169

Also get the white corrugated hose to replace the one you may likely break when taking off the stock one.. Its only 8 bucks..
