Team Green Coil Conversion: REVIEW
Tuesday, May 22, 2007 8:25 AM
I figured I'd put this here since it will get the most views by the people who would be interested in such a modification.

I contacted Tom (Wrench Monkey) @ Team Green about his coil swap setup he was offering, and I can honestly say you can't deal with a nicer, more helpful individual. We discussed different ways to go about the conversion and after some discussion he recommended going with the MSD adaptors instead of a re-wired 2.2 ICM module.

Within 2 weeks he had gone to the junkyard and purchased me the appropriate ICM plug and 2.2 coil bracket for the swap, and I paid him via paypal for the entire setup. During that time he kept me appraised of when he'd ordered the parts, where they were, when they showed up, and how long things would take.

During the fabrication process he sent me pictures of his progress - which I must say was quite quick. Within a few days everything was wired and ready to go.

I asked him to graciously test the unit on his own car for a day or so to ensure its reliability, which he did. Once everything was good to go, he provided me with a wiring schematic of what he had done should I want to add an MSD-DIS 2 (which I am going to do), and shipped it in a very timely fashion. The box showed up fast and well-packed. For international shipping I requested Tom send it via USPS which he did. No duties or border taxes - WOOT! (7 day shiping door to door)

The install was quite easy - locate a spot for the coils, drill and screw them down... take off your stock IDI cover, ditch all the coilpacks and coils, boots and springs, run your new plug wires from the plugs to the marked spots on the coils, plug the ICM plug from the new coils into the ICM, and bolt the IDI cover down.

The car started on the first try.

A few things to note - the car starts noticably easier now... low RPM driving is smoother and overall the car feels a bit stronger.... this is the same feeling I got when I strapped my MSD-DIS 2 to my stock coils. In a few weeks I will be splicing that into this setup, but for now I'm taking it easy.

Overall I can't express enough just how happy I am I did this, and how easy Tom made it for me. On a scale of 1-10 in difficulty this is barely a 1. Completely worth the money!

Attached please find a few pictures of the installed product.

Thanks again Tom and Team Green!

Yeah,
Basically, you can buy all the goods and send to him, and he will just charge his fee.
That's about how I did it.

There should still be his post in the classifieds on it.

Anything with Team Green is always a good thing.

Yep! I've seen it done. Looks great. No wonder the yard doesn't have anymore plates or wires huh.... Cause I have them all... If anyone wants the plate and the wires let me know I have at least 2 maybe 3 plates and wires for them. I have stock coils, but have not tested them

Thank you Chris

Ive taken a few orders so far and am a little backed up waiting for parts but all orders should be filled by the end of the week. Thanks for everyones patience on waiting for parts.

Also this core system seems to be working well most send me the ICM plug first which eliminates the need for a core charge.

What kind of screws/mounting bases/screw holders are you guys using to bolt down this set up?
And can they be picked up at the local hardware shops?

Pics are a plus.

Thanks,

do you just do it for how people want their coils numbered cuz mastins and brians coils are numbered differently
mastins = 4132
brians = 1423
