Do mandrel pipes exist?

Ok,
I don't get it.

For whatever reason, I can't seem to find any true 2.25 I.D. mandrel bent pipes anywhere.

This goes for all the reatail exhaust systems as well.
I'm finding the piping thats being offers is actually 2.25 O.D. tubing.
Same with all the 2.5 pipes out there.
Everything is O.D.

(so all those tests out there with the headers comparing 2.25 and 2.5 pipes, it may be time to reevaluate)
WTF?!!

If anyone knows where I can buy some true 2.25 I.D. pipes so I can't finalize my exhaust it would be appreciated.

I really would not like to have to put 2.5 piping for my exhaust.

Thanks,
-M

exhaust is generally measured by the OD. If 2.25 OD is too small, then get 2.5 OD.

Yeah, generally they all come in O.D. measurements. My guess is that a 2.5" would be right around 2.35" I.D. which is decent for an NA setup or boosted.

I get mine from Racing Solutions and they seem to be the cheapest.

the OD vs ID has nothing to do with mandrel

mandrel is the way the pipe is bent, and has nothing to do with the measurement of the diameter of the ID vs the diameter of the OD.
it does however refer to the diameter of the pipe in a U-bend or a J-bend. crush bent pipes are just that, crush bent so you get ripples around bends. mandrel does not have this and maintains its diameter throughout a bend.

but I reiterate, mandrel bends have nothing to do with an ID measurement vs an OD measurement

and mandrel bent pipes do exist. I used them extensively for my 3" exhaust system.

I have a full mandrel bent 2.5" exaust on my car. I had to lengthen one of the pipes and found out it was 2.5 OD, I thought it was ID, too. If you stop and think about the fact the pipe is only 1/16 of an inch thick, it really doesn't matter though. It's not like the overall 1/8" decrease is going to restrict the exaust flow, or effect performance any. At least on our cars.

^^ I know that part of it PJ.
And actually I need to catch up with you for the HPT.

^^Yeah, I understand that part too Weebel.

You guys are hitting it on the head.

But my question was more of:
Why can't I find "xyz" inner diameter pipe.
---That's also mandrel bent .
---So I can buy it to make up an exhaust.

And its more conceptual than anything.
You figure its better to have all the inner piping all the same size regardless what the size is.
Unfortunatly witht he pipe guage thickness difference, that's when the numbers get skewed.

Oh well,
Guess I'll just have to go 2.5 I.D. since that what places are telling me they can do.

Thanks for the info guys.

www.magnumforceracing.com , www.ssheaders.com

I buy mandrel bends from them all the time. Built 3 or 4 sets of headers and also a 3" mandrel exhaust system for the '91.

LOL!

I don't think he sells too many of those, His U bends are pretty decently priced though.

Thanks for all the help guys.

No luck in the search though.

Gonna have to try something different.

Everyone seems to be able to expand pipes, so I'll try that.
See if they can enlarge it as close the bends as possible ot something.
Or just go crushed.

Thanks for all the help,
-M
