It's not a crap header, you just need to figure out how to install it.
The flange uses a standard exhaust manifold gasket, the nut under the primary has to be slid on before the flange is completely mated to the head, so when its on at an angle, slip the nut between the primary and the stud coming out of the head before you push it all the way against the head.
Also get a good ratchet wrench, it will make the job 10x easier.

For the gaskets on the second flange where the downpipe mates, just take the bottom section to Autozone or parts place of your choice and match up some paper/metal gaskets until you find ones that fit, if you need to clip the inside of the gaskets where they touch so the fit right, make sure they have the crush ring in the center of the gasket, if they dont have that they will burn out and youll get an exhaust leak. Also go get some decent grade 8 bolts for that second flange and torque the @!#$ out of it.

It also helps if you take a sanding block and block the flanges on both downpipe and bottom of header to make sure they are completely flat, it will ensure you get a good seal and no leaks.

its the 4-2-1 header..we have tried that method and it still will not seal getting leak on the #2 primary , its difficult to describe what the problem is but the studs will not cut it we are going to have to use bolts..

When you bolt the primaries to the head, put the nut on as you slide the primaries over the studs. Then use a racheting wrench to finish tightening. And don't forget to tie away the fuel lines when your done! Pics included. Hope this helps.

well i did some research and came up with a solution..it seems to me that the ls1's share the same 8mmX1.25 bolt..so i bought the reduced header bolts and there guaranteed to work with the limited space that these headers accommodate...so i hope that we all helped eachother out here!!!LOL
