Just for starters i am NOT asking anyone how to do this, i am just asking if anyone knows of a sticky or where i can find previous info o n this issue. I have looked and searched and cant seem to find what i am looking for. Anyways, i have a dilema. I have an auto 97 2.2 cavalier with ALOT of money and custom work into it., the miles are getting high and eventually i will have to swap motors asi dont want to get rid of the car. So i am looking for the info on how to swap to a MANUAL 2.4 setup. i know it will take some work, but one must do what one must do. Any direction is appreciated. thanks.
Thinking about the same thing here. I have a 96 Z24 5sp with a dead motor. If I can't get the damn thing started I might swap in a whole 99 2.4 engine. Good thing you've a 97 coz the wiring in 96 is kinda different as I know. And I think all the matter is how to hook up the harness.
Well i'm not sure where to even start...i'm gonna have to look elswhere for info
This thread is less then 2 hours old.. Give it a day, and search around in the mean time. The information is there you just have to find it. I would post links, but I haven't looked around for information regarding your question. I'll see what I can do later tonight though..

I believe you'll need the PCM, Tranny, Motor, Wiring harnesss, axles and shift linkage.... if I'm not mistaken.
Anyone add onto this?
Yes, youll be able to use your driver side 2.2 axle, but youll need the passenger side from a Manual tranny..
I did this swap, but kept the auto tranny.. I went from a 2.2 auto to a 2.4 auto.. But I used my 2.2 driver side axle..
You'll also need the manual brake and clutch pedal.

Pop your hood. Take a good look around. See all the wires connected to the engine, various hoses/lines/pipes going into or out of the engine? Now, think about the items connected to those lines, items that either provide electronic input or output feedback from the engine. Got that in your head? Good, you'll need ALL of that.
Yes, this is a half sarcastic reply, but you will seriously need a lot of things.

^^Your right,, I didnt even think of that duhhhh.. And Ive even done the swap..
Going off the top of my head youll need the following:
Motor(duh)
Tranny
Tranny lines
pcm+wiring harness
upper and lower coolant hoses
manual brake and clutch pedal
Passenger side axle
z24 gauge cluster(if you dont have a tach already in your 2.2)
The physical lower engine mount that attaches the motor to the lower motor dogbone
Tranny mounts welded in
Headlight bearings hehe j/k
Thats it that I can think of right now.
