That is a myth. You could alternate between synthetic and regular on your oil changes if you wanted to.

With that said, switch to synthetic. I would not run a turbo motor without synthetic oil.

One other question... I know our cars call for 5w-30 so should i use that in synthetic?

yes or 10w 30 but nothing more than that unless your motor is built internally i wouldnt suggest just because the higher you go the thicker the oil
well right now im using 10w-30 so i will just stay with that...

idk what i did, but when i ran 10 30 in my car, i felt a decent bit of loss in power, and a few more noticeable vibrations.. also gave a bit rougher start up.
depending on how often you drive your car, you may want to get back on the 5W 30. even on my non turbo cav, i use pennzoil platinum full synthetic (over royal purple, and mobil 1 synthetic) ive tried them all, and for the cost vs what you get back, i loved royal purple, but then again, the pennzoil feels the same and runs the same to me. time will tell.
I'd stay with 10W30, the added heat from the turbo is going to thin the oil a little bit. I use 15W50 in my engine.
BTW, Mobil1 FTW!

I'm using Royal Purple XPR 10W40 in my car. Awsome motor oil. I used Mobil 1 10W30 in my girlfriend's Civic & switched to Royal Purple 10W30 & noticed ran a whole lot better. I wouldn't use anything besides Royal Purple myself, nothing against Mobil 1, still a great oil.

I run AMSOIL 5w30. And have for about 2 years now.

Actually one of the worst sythetics you can get. Far better than a standard oil, but not "Awesome" by any stretch. The VI (Viscosity Index) on Royal Purple is lower than Mobil 1, Valvoline, Schaffer's, and Amsoil. I believe there are a few other sythentics that are better, as well. I used to believe in Royal Purple too, then I did a little on line searching about oils and all the data that is available and found that AMSOIL is actually one of, if not the best oil on the market.

I use mobile1 synthetic and also mix in a bottle of STP oil stabilizer. With the stabilizer, my car hits higher rpm's easier and smoother. Would recommend everyone to try it. Also noticed better gas mileage.

i tried the STP treatment once... at first it did seem better, then after a while, it sounded like it was making my engine work harder while just driving. and it made my next oil change look absolutely gross.... i noticed the same effects as you at first. maybe i just got a bad batch!?
I use penzoil sae-30! ohoooooooo!!!

The Royal Purple is very good too

I have the bearings from my turbo before it was rebuilt to prove it cokes up really easily, even with proper shutdowns.
Mobil 1 FTW

Sort of off topic.
How often do you turbo guys change your synthetic oil?
Well i put my moibil 1 synthetic in yesterday morning... And i can def tell a difference while driving. Thanks guys!!
I change my oil every 3000 miles sometime sooner, depending on how rough i am on the car for those miles!

3000-7000 miles. Depends how lazy I am and how much I've beaten on it.
