Spining tires
Saturday, June 23, 2007 9:39 PM
I was wondering what do i need to do to get my car to spin the tires. The reason is that all my friends have v8's and they joke on my car for not being able to spin the tires. Is there any thing i can do to get the tires to spin. I have for mods a CAI, 4-1 header, and high flow muffler (saving up for a cat back and high flow cat). If any one can give me help it will be appericated. Also i have an auto trans.

Neutral drops are the ONLY way to go!

bring the air pressure WAAAAYYYY up lol

it will do the trick, but not really good to drive like that.

your friends with their v8's are almost garunteed to be RWD cars. they can spin alot easier than you can because they dont have the weight of the engine and tranny on top of their driving axel. you do.

how ever, take them on a road track and more than likely your friends will be in the dirt and off the track for the better part of a lap.

more air pressure in tires, and brake torque it. just dont do it too much.

It says youre building a cobalt engine, wait till youre done with that to worry about v8s. The way i see it, v8s are nice if you wanna go fast, but its more impressive to be able to do the same, or near it with 1/2 the motor, no?

you could always get a cheap nitrous kit, but thats a bit extreme to just burn rubber.

Swap in a 5 speed tranny and you'll be able to spin the tires all you want. Seriously that would be your best bet.

I agree with you 100% about it being more impressive to be as fast or almost as fast with 1/2 the engine. In my case, my freind has an Ls1 Camaro he just bought and I get WAY more attention and respect becasue I have a @!#$load of work into my car and it looks completely stock. Even though his car is a little faster.

Automatics are good for 2 things: stop-and-go traffic, and driving with one hand and one foot (and usually half a brain goes with half the body...) If the transmission is built (upgraded everything inside), it has benefits in drag racing. burnouts aren't in there anywhere, just get a manual. if you don't know how to drive a manual, LEARN. it'll be worth it.
Oh, yeah, autos are also good for big trucks; they have enough torque that the additional loss (auto vs. manual) is overcome and not too many people want to drive with a clutch pedal as heavy as it takes to handle said torque. but trucks don't handle worth a damn, so who cares...

Are we gonna start the manual vs. auto argument again?

buy some slicks, and drive in the rain.....no for real dont worry about spinning in an auto 4 cylinder....build your cobalt engine and blow the doors off the V8's, trust me that will get you more respect than being able to spin tires.

burnouts on the street are for dumb twats that want to think just because they can make the tires spin they have a fast car. The only acceptable place for a burnout is at the track, and done only enough to clean the tire surface of debris.

I used to roast my tires on my sunbird until the car was engulfed in smoke (back when I had it), it did it easy, and it was a 4-banger. Although it was a 5-speed. I only did it to proove to people the car would do it, whenever they said the car didn't have enough power to do a burn out.

Here's what you do...next time your at a stop light next to one of your v8 buddies, and they sit there and light up there tires when the light turns green, just punch your car to the floor and leave them like there standing still, and give them crap for not being able to hook up worth a damn.

On my 2.2 Ecotec Sunfire with automatic, it does spin tires.
I do not like ruining my tires just to impress.
If I was rich I would, but then again I would be driving something else.

Windshield washer sprayers in front of the tires aimed low with bleach. A buddy did that with a Geo Metro. Produces a whiter smoke though.

if you're looking for approval from your V8 buddies, you're not going to get it.

buy a rwd V8 or buy a stick next time. with a manul, an 80hp car can spin the tires.
