ecotec auto shift cable

me and a friend both have the pacesetter header 4-1. he's had his quite awhile longer than me. both of our shift cables sit right on the header. he's recently ran into the problem where his cable has snapped due to the extreme heat of the header. he runs the @!#$ out of his car. he has to get under the hood to shift it. all he does is pull the e-brake, pops the hood and puts it into gear. he's got the shift plus so when he's in drive or reverse, he knows it cause it shifts kinda hard. he's going today i think to get a new cable. the protective @!#$ around the cable on mine is still there but crumbles when i attempt to move it off of there header. i thought about trying to run the cable under the header but he says he's tried that but its to tight and it would touch the header. so..........i'm thinking about now wrapping the cable where it sits on the header in aluminum foil for a temporary fix. the foil i know would last under the heat. has anyone else incountered this problem with this header? if so, what have you done to solve the problem? thanks.
