Nice Little Boost of HP

Yo Guys!
Just giving a heads up to What I've done to my ecotec!

My buddy and I while installing my Foglights realized that there is a warm air intake system that adds a helluva lot of restriction and weight (about 10lb)!

If you have an air intake system or not, I would highly suggest removing this! I feel immidiate power increase and much deeper engine sound after taking that off!

I haven't done anything preformance to my ecotec yet besides that, and after I took it off, it kinda sounds like an older honda engine (B18, H22A)! No other exhaust work done before that, but right after it, we took the resonator off, and it sounds even better and deeper coming out the back!

Just a suggestion to all those ricer-killerz! Hope you like it!

Please tell me any comments you may have about this, either + or -! Or suggestions on anything else I should do. I'm getting a muffler soon, but the eco's have a 2 1/4 stock exhause pipe anyway, so no need for a cat-back! =)

are you talking about the bong? it sits behind the bumper in front of the driver side tire?

The art of removing the bong and/or tuner tube on a J is older than the earth itself.

yeah removing that aint nothing new

Im a Xbox 360 fanboy...and damn proud of it!!

removing it is nothing new and for the mot part useless, any very very very tiny gains from less wieght and less restriction is pretay much in your head. Just cause it makes more noise doesn't mean it makes more power.

That's BS.
Taking all that restriction away is nearly the same as putting a short ram AI on, and that gives at least (with a horrible filter) a 5hp gain.

No. Your statement is BS. That piece does effective NOTHING for the intake system. The restriction in the stock intake system is the 2in piping and the flex piping....not the bong.

Then why can my rpm drop quicker, shift quicker, and pickup better? It does provide less resistance.
You argue that a AI system doesn't work? (I am not arguing about the 2"-3" pipe size change.

why not buy an ebay intake and make some real gains?

Becuase this is immidiate, and even after buying an AI, I'll still want to remove that extra weight

i agree, less weight rules, but man... that bong weighs 5 lbs if ur lucky. not going to gain nothing there.

for the work it takes to get the damn thing out and un attached you coulda have clicked on an ebay intake and bought lol.

LMAO

your ignorance entertains me, you have MUCH to learn

btw your prolly not gonna see a 5 hp gain from an actual intake

your rpm droping and shifting has nothign to do with anything and again... the quicker is all in your head, you think its faster because it makes more noise.

Directions:
Go to autozone
Buy parts for "custom" air induction setup
Install parts
Maybe 5hp, but doubtful that you'd get more until you get a full exhaust sys. (yes...their directly dependent upon each other)

my comment about your ignorance... your further proving me right...

here check this out...

http://www.directautomotiveproducts.com/vfmahe.html

you get up to 25% gain in horsepower! Its on the internet so it MUST be true.

btw since you seem extremely new at all this... do not buy the venom 400 module, its been proven to do ABSOLUTELY NOTHING, its litteraly a paper weight.

NEVER believe horse power gains a manufactuer claims they simply are not right. You could dyno a car in denver, and then again at sea level and you will see more then a 5 hp gain simply form change in evelvation.

They could have done there dyno test on a car with full exhaust from header to tip with cams with a stock intake and then swapped intakes... in that case yes there will be big gains. Companies do all kids of shady crap to make there results look good, liek the Venom 400 for example.... they aren't going to advertise hey buy this for $300+ because it does nothing... they are gonna BS there way to the results look great.

Again never believe claimed power gains unless you personally know who did the the before and after dyno.

btw I did say probobally, I didn't say its impossible to see 5 hp.... but regardless, even if K&N claims 5 hp gain... you think removing the piece of plastic that does nothing is going to do the same? not a chance in hell.

as for claiming results... your claiming "at least 5 hp" from doing nothing... which again leads right back to my point... NEVER believe claimed gains (allthough in this case its you spewing BS and not a company)

Ok!
Thank you for proving my ignorance more than anyone else in the world!
And Also!
Thank you for proving me wrong in all aspects of my life... and proving that my life is not worth living...

Want to make a fool of me any more, and to completely bash my mother too?

I thought I was trying to give a little tidbit of information to everyone out there, but obviously all I did was make a complete jackass of myself. I searched on the J-Body for what I thought was a Warm air intake system, didn't find anything, so I added this! I know my car runs better, sounds a helluva lot better, and DOES shift quicker... I dont care what you say regarding it. As for K&N and their AI system, I belive them about that, until someone actually does DYNO their car and prove them wrong.

Next time I'll leave my suggestions to myself instead of being completely bashed by somone who makes themselves feel better on Webposts.

Do you know what ignorant means? Lacking education or knowledge. Unaware or uninformed.

I'm not insulting you by calling you ignorant. I'm calling you ignorant because your talking out your ass because you simply do not know. You can believe what you want but you ARE wrong, there is no way around that. Working on cars is what I do for a living, I've been modifying cars for a long time, I know what I'm talking about.

Do you really think everyone in this thread is wrong because you think noise = power. I've seen peopel who swear up and down that whatever mod made tere car so much faster etc... yet an actual dyno shows extremely small if any gains.

And again on claimed gains... you can see a 5 hp difference by changing a really dirty air filter for a clean one, claimed gains are about as usefull as a handful of ball bearings thrown into the oil cap of a running motor. Hell its common for dyno runs to change by a few hp without ANY difference in the car from run to run.

The only reason I'm even in this thread is becasue there is so much wrong information out there already I'm not gonna sit and watch wrong info get spread even more. You are wrong, everyone knows your wrong except you, I don't want other people to read it and think its right.

Whatever
That's all I can say is whatever.
You've been rude on this thread the whole time. I give up arguing with you.
Any real person who wants to improve their car, does little things... and little things add up to big things. Minor HP gain, and Weight reduction eventual add up, don't they?
Sure there are more things I can, and have to do to my car, but don't I have to start somewhere?

I wanted to help, and sorry for being, what you call, ignorant because I am not a professional, which you claim to be... but if you were, why are you spending so much time arguing with rookies and novices?
