can you remove the cat off a 98 2.4 without running into a problem with the oygen sensor.
If theres only one one sensor at the header you shouldn't have a problem

so my question is Is there a oxygen sensor connected with the cat?
the 2nd 02 sensor is placed right after the cat in the piping. unfortunatly the main company that was selling 02 simulators just got butt raped bigtime by the EPA and can no longer sell them. ive heard you can make your own somehow though.

Check this out for a way to trick the O2 sensor.
Trick that's used on a wide variety of cars. It moves the O2 sensor slightly out of the exhaust stream so less of the exhaust actually gets to it - making it think there's a cat in place.
just grab a ecu from a 97 with a single o2 and grab the o2 sensor.
i don tknow if you could wire it up without it being a pain in the ass, but my 97 only has 1 O2 sensor and it is perfectly legal.

Your 98 has a O2 sensor after the cat. Search for manual o2 sim. There is a few posts about it on here. I have it and know of others with it as well. Works great.

Yeah negative ghost rider. 96+ J's have 2 O2 sensor's. If yours did not it was taken out, or maybe you did not see it, or had a O2 sim on it.

^^^ yup my 97z has a second 02, as well as my 98.
mine only has 1... apparently the part store i called about getting a price on a new one agreed with my that there was only one, and the guy who changed the cat/flex pipe for me before i bought the car found only 1 as well....
so i dont know where the hell it could have gone, but i can take pics if you guys want....
also, i was told the the quad up until 97 and a half ha donly 1 O2 sensor. ones made after a certain date in 97 model year had 2 O2 sensors.... maybe one is missing, maybe its not....
