yea i know you need one for 99 cavaliers and up cuz we dont have a distributer but i was just wondering were i could get one for cheap just need suggestions thanks
No cavalier has a distributor... at least not from the 87 through 05's I have experience with...
You can pick up a signal off of the coil trigger and set the tach for 2 cylinder mode, or you can buy a tach adapter (just search google).

Buy stuff from CarCustoms Ebay! Won't be disappointed!
i got my autometer unit on ebay for $60 shipped about a year ago... i really dont think you'll get it much cheaper than that.
this is the unit i have, works flawlessly.

what are you guys trying to drive with this?
On a similar note, if using an MSD Dis-2, is a tach adapter required to run your factory tach?
I have the autometer adaptor as well. Piece of cake to install and it runs my pretty little autometer 2 1/16th tach.
but all you guys are doing is running tachs with them? From my remote start install days, to get a tach signal, you should just be able to get it off the fuel injectors, I have no idea about the accuracy of that, since all a remote start needs to see is that the engine is running...
Now what I dont know and would like to find out is the MSD Dis 2 stuff, and using a tach adapter on that....anyone?

The engine harness is found next to the battery, below the radiator hose, just above the transaxle. This harness has a 2 inch black split loom around it.

RKSport tach adapter - $32.95
This is the one I have and it works great. Mine provides a rpm signal to my extra injector controller. It's very accurate.

the only problem w/ that is that this gives you 1/2 the actual rpm of the engine. if you have a tach thats 2 cyl. capable, this isnt a problem for you.

On a 99 cavalier the white wire going into the ignition control module will give you the tach signal. ^^^^^You're right about the 1/2 rpm issue. I have an Autometer DPSS and it allows you to set the signal interval to allow for scaling the actual rpm correctly, mine is set to 1 to display the rpm correctly. You will need a tach adapter if you don't have an MSD unit or a tach that allows you to select the interval to determine the right display rpm.

You would happen to have some pics of the install by chance? I have the RKSport tach adapter and a GlowShift tinted tachometer but I am getting no readings out of the tach. When I start my car, the needle jumps all the way-up then falls back down to 0 and just sits there. I'm unsure as to what maybe hooked up wrong.

I don't have any pics of that actually. I installed it exactly as it was shown in the directions and it works perfect...if that helps you any...

John is right you can get tach signal from the uncommon side of the injector....if Rich is right (which im sure he is cuz i dont know) then just get a tach with 2 cycles....problem solved and easy install....plus you should save money....GL
Spilner521 - did you wire the tach adapter into the 2-wire plug or the 6-wire plug?

I don't remember off hand how many wires were in the plug, but I spliced into the wires that plug into the ignition control module under the IDI cover. I'm pretty sure that's where the directions showed to splice in.
