quick ? about removing cat
Tuesday, July 31, 2007 12:05 PM
I recently got my exhaust redone without the cat. I know that I should be getting a CEL for the lack of second sensor. I am throwing multiple codes on a crusty scanner. I was just wondering what code should be thrown. I have 2 different o2 sensor codes and I am a little confused.

when mine was off i used to get p0420 on my scanner, but no worries about that now with a new hi-flow one.

It's normal to get 2 codes when the second 02 sensor goes out. Revoving it looks pretty much the same to the computer as if it where bad/broken. One code should be a system interupt code and the other should be a out of range code if I remember right. Usually if any sensor goes out on an OBD2 car, the ecu ends up throwing at least 2 codes if not more for the same thing.

Im using an rk o2 sim without any problems. I have a cat still, but theres no rear o2 bung so I have the sim. Soon Ill be redoing my entire exhaust(again) lol, with stans header,12" test pipe res, 2.5" piping from customtubes, and a greddy ti muffler...its gona be loud as hell lol. Ill prolly end up getting something like a 24" glasspack or something to quiet it down.

Im using the o2 sim for now and when I redo it with no cat, but hopefully Ill be getting a tune using hptuners sometime soon so Ill just delete the rear code. The guy I got the o2 sim from used it for a few years with no problems though.

P0130 - O2 Sensor Circuit Malfunction, Bank 1 Sensor 1 (sensor before the cat)

P0141 - O2 Sensor Heater Circuit Malfunction, Bank 1 Sensor 2 (sensor after the cat)

Basically that means that both sensors are shot so you just have to replace them both. Since you don't have a cat, you may throw these codes after you replace the sensors:

P0420 - Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 1)

P0422 - Main Catalyst Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 1)

If you install a high flow cat you won't throw any inefficiency codes. If you got rid of your second O2 sensor all together, you'll probably throw this code:

P0140 - O2 Sensor Circuit No Activity Detected (Bank 1 Sensor 2)

No. It gets a voltage reading back and needs to see that the voltage changes
