I am looking for John Higgins...i need your help
Friday, August 31, 2007 11:52 AM
I was on another forum asking about something and they referred me here to ask you more about it because they say you are very knowledgeable about the subject

so i have a 1999 2.4L Olds Alero and i am looking for a cold air intake

i have found a couple that are very pricy and i was wondering if the cavalier z24 intakes would fit in my car because they have the same engine i wouldnt think it was a problem...im just wondering about the spacing in the engine bay and would it be fine in my car

i have a friend with a 2001 grand am, he bought an ebay 2.4 (aem knock-off) intake and it fit flawlessly.

thats the same engine but where the stock intake is on my car is below that black cap with the orange print on it, so i just bought a knockoff for like $20 bucks as an experiment, if it doesnt fit, its just money, im not going to die

aw man dude, you just scared the @!#$ out of me

i wouldnt mind paying for something and finding out myself it wont work

but if you just told me id mess my engine up right now, i would have gone back on ebay and canceled my order, taken my negative feedback and told that guy to drown himself

but i got a good laugh after like 20 seconds, because i didnt see the jk at first haha

Haha, dont sweat it man an intake is no problem. All an intake is, is just a pipe with a filter. It will work with your car no problem, and even if for some odd reason it wouldnt you make it fit easily.

I don't quite understand the draw these things have. Your factory intake is a cold air intake. Those are warm air intakes. Also, at anything less than 5000RPM, the factory intake is not hurting the flow. Unless you have put a lot into your motor, you gain nothing by changing the intake. Add to that the fact that you are now taking in warm air, and you are defeating the purpose of changing it at all.

because the stock air box is ugly and i dont want to pay $200 for a real intake lol

LOL. OK, well that's a fine reason then.

It's not like on a stock or even lightly modified engine they will have a noticeable effect in either direction.

That intake will fit just fine on an Alero. It's exactly the same type of thing I used to have, and it fit mine just fine.
