good starting mods?
Sunday, September 02, 2007 1:56 PM
ok i got a 01 z24 5 speed. Right now i have a intake and exhaust. I am going to get a underdrive pully and i was looking at some diffrent intake manifolds i was wanting to know what u guys think is best? also what about injectors? whats a good replacement for slight mods? I think i am also going to get them secert cams. Where is a good place to buy them? Later down the road i want to force induct it. What is cheeper way to do it supercharger, or turbo?

there is no need for larger injectors on bolt ons. only options on the intake manifold would be a venom or a HO manifold.

OBX is a cheap knock off. the holes for the bolts dont line up right

unless your running a turbo or supercharger the stock injectors are fine as far a bolt on a cold air intake from rk is a good start any 2.25 cat back exhaust is a good start
but before you think about putting real power to the weels you may want to upgrade you clutch and engine/tranny mounts

i have all energysuspension mounds and running a zoom stage2 clutch

THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE, i have already died once and im still here so lets just leave it on the track

I disagree. if the Z is the same as the 2.2 eco, my injectors were maxed out with intake and exhaust
105% duty cycle at 6300rpm when tuning for a 13:1 AFR

larger injectors would help slightly but only if you tune it for them.

At this point I would just save your money for the GM Performance parts supercharger kit. There is no better bang for buck.

I also agree that larger injectors are not needed. I have been datalogging with my 01 Z24. Max injector duty cycle has been 87%. Yes that is getting up there, but still ok. I would not recommend a intake manifold. I would say do a slight port job on the opening of the stock intake manifold so you can put a larger (57mm) TB on and flow nicely. Motor mounts and tranny mounts. It is a toss up on doing cams or not, and then just some good dyno tuning. If you wanted to go this far and get a good port and polish on the head as well. That would make a awesome N/A 2.4.

If you're just looking for a few extra mods on the dd nothing as extreme as boost for now then i'd not recommend getitng an intake manifold. The only real restrictive part to the intake system would be the intake itself. An intake would be a great breather mod to do. I eventually plan to throw one on as well.

For starters i'd definitely recommend getting the motor mounts, they're worth the vibs you get from them. I myself only have a lower motor mount on my car and i could definitely see the difference in driving. I do plan on upgrading the upper motor mount in time as well, i'm hesitant because i'm not sure how bad the vibs would be. THey're not bad with the lower mount unless the a/cs cranked so the upper would only make it more noticeable.

I'd also recommend a header, for me a dc sport 4-1 header, an exhaust, i didnt go full but instead just got the vibrant cat back. I noticed a slight change in the driving power with the catback system but when i through the dc sport header on i could definitely notice the low end power i received.

Another recommendation that i have is to throw a b&m shiftplus on the tranny if its an auto. I notice a great difference in shifts for a very cheap price.

Thats all the mods i've done so far and i've definitely noticed the difference. Wiith the exhaust, header, lower motor mount, and b&m shiftplus i defeated a 3.5 liter 92 prelude. I had them the entire way, start to finish they stood no chance. I only have a 2.2L ecotec so thats quite the difference. It wasn't a 6 cyl but they had me beat in liters for sure, lol.

Good luck on the build. Eventually you'll be wanting to mod the engine internals and all that good stuff. Thats on my to do list now.

ya right now i have exhaust and a CAI but i think i will get the mounts and headder next. Tomorrow i am going to change my tranny fluid to see if it helps it go into first better. Is a short throw shifter worth it? On this motor i am just going to do cams for internal then next year, like next summer i am pulling the motor and rebuilding it with a ported 2.3HO head and cams and a turbo. I will get my stage 2 clutch then also. But right now i want to get the most N/A power i can. Like i said all i have done is catback and CAI, and i can get up to 3rd gear scratch.
