3400 swap questions
Sunday, July 15, 2007 4:21 PM
So im doing this swap at school. My question is (if anyone knows) will the 3100 wiring harness work with the 3400. As far as I can see there the same engines ( despite the displacement) I have found everything else i need for this swap except the harness. Any ideas where to get a 3400 wiring harness besides the junk yard? Cant find them anywhere. Thanks

make sure you get a matching year to the engine (especially if it has the injector harness already in place). the injector impedence changed from 1999 to 2000, as did a few other connectors.

Kardain is right, the year matters. However, the displacement doesn't. Electronicly, and externally, the 3100 and 3400 from the same years are identical. The only difference is the accessory setup, which isn't even that different. You can swap the belt routing fairly easy by moving the idler pulley.

If your engine has the injector harness still on it (which I'm guessing it does, since it's not a quick piece to remove, so a salvage yard doesn't bother), you can just plug it in, as long as you have the same year. I found that some older ones have two smaller plugs for this harness (one for the injectors, the other for the CTS and CPS wires). I'm not sure which year they changed, but I believe it was in 2000.

there was a harness on ebay a couple of days ago, for a 3400, a 99-03 3400 harness should work
