ok, i took the engine apart because my head cracked and wanted to check everything. now i'm reinstalling the rod and i have endplay of about 0.040" and haynes says .005-0.015. i have way too much play!!!! the rods still looks like brand new!
what am i doing wrong? also, i just changed the crank!!!
anyone know whats the size the rods i should have or have an idea of whats going wrong?
thanx
somehtigns not right there... did you forget the bearing? thats the only way i see that happening unless you get a machined crank with smaller journals in which case you need oversize bearings to compensate.
no, the bearing were in. even if it would have smaller journal, endplay wouldn't change...no? its from side to side that i have 0.040" of play! i mean the rod can slide from side to side (0.040")
It HAS to be the bearings...

It CANNOT be the bearings.
The bearings have nothing to do with side clearance.
Its probably just bad machining by eagle.
sig not found
anyone have a set of rod and could check whats the width of them?
thanx

thats what i'm thinking now. this would explain why my first crank was eaten by the rods...
thanx
0.9115" is what my old set (eagle)checked on the crank end.

ok, thanx. thats what i have, 0.911" and the crank is something like 0.945"
so that would make the crank bad and that would make 2 bad crank in a row that i get....
what does the crank journal width supposed to measure?
thanx
.916-.922 I think (that's what my notes say anyhow).

ok, thanx alot John.
i guess i have a bad crank...
ok, i went to multiple machine shop today and couldn't find a crank with less than .930-.935 journal width
