I race oval track and I need to get rid of my power steering (most everyone runs without it). Were there any Cavlier's that didn't have PS from the factory so I can buy a belt for a non-powersteering car? or am I going to have to find a generic belt that will fit the new pattern of pulleys?
what motor do you have? what year is the car?
i dont think you'll get any answers w/o that info
i think power steering belts are located in the same aisle as the blinker fluid at pep boys.

I have a power steering belt. My bet is he swapped to a 94-earlier quad 4.

Have you ever tried to steer one of these cars without power steering. On my old cav my belt broke and I could barley turn the wheel even while moving. I guess its the setup because I had a chevy truck with manual steering an it wasnt nearly as hard to turn the wheel. And No these cars never came without powersteering. If you have a 2.2, 2200, or an older cav with a v6 the just buy a smaller belt If you really wanna do it. If you have the 2.4 i doesnt have a belt, its cam driven.
cars that dont have power steering have racks that are made for no power assist. When you have a power assist rack and remove the pump, it will not act the same.
Come onnnnnnnn you guys should have rolled with it. Anyway, yes if you (and I have one) have a 2.4 twin cam your power steering is driven off the cam.

nevermind...I reread, and I think he is asking about a shorter belt for a motor that drives the ps off the accessory belt. Which would be one of the OHV motors. Like stated above, go to napa or advanceauto and buy a smaller belt. Easiest way to measure what length you would need, is to take string and wrap it around the components you want driven, then take that length and subtract about an inch or two to adjust for the tensioner.

Yeah sorry.. I forgot... I have a 91 Cav. SOHC... I race oval track and EVERYONE takes off the power steering in my class. Having the power steering on the car makes it drive eratically and is too twitchy. I have driven other cars with the power steering taken off... (dodge daytona, escort) just no cavalier.
Brian is right.. what I was asking was is there a shorter belt for a motor without ps. I guess I'll have to try the string trick but I just saw myself buying a lot of belts before I found something that worked.
