Help! No oil Pressure!!
Wednesday, October 10, 2007 2:06 PM
Just got done a couple days ago on a COMPLETE rebuild. New Pistons, rings, crankshaft ect. I went to prime the engine ( spark plugs out and fuel pump off) crank it about a dozen times, thinking the engine is primed. Hooked everything up and it fired up like it was new. But it sounded like i never put oil in the damn thing, so i turned if off quick after about 5 seconds of running. I check the oil level it was full. so i tried it again but let it run a lil longer. Still the noise didnt go away. So i pull off the oil pressure switch/sensor and started the engine. i let it run for a bout 10 seconds and no oil was coming out. So im not getting any oil threw the engine at all. i dropped the pan and made sure the chain on the crank and balancer/pump didnt come off, it was fine with no slack in it. Then i took off the pump. took it apart and it was full of oil. And to my sock the pump only has two moving parts, which i dont see how something like that could go wrong. Anyone has any ideas on what else can cause no oil pressure in my engine but oil in the pump please let me know. Remember i have had this whole block ripped apart and everything was replaced for the most part. No one in my area knows anything about these 2.4l engines. Hell if you can give me a call the number is 610 842 4064 My name is rich. also my msn is Snaps641@hotmail.com Thanks for your help!!!!!!!

Ps i did use engine pre-assembly lube. and there was only a lil metal shavings/dust on the engine drain plug.

I would not run the car unless you sure the engine is pumping oil. pull the plugs unplug the fuel take the plug on the side of the cam tower out turn it over it may take a awhile mine probably took about 30-40 sec to start pumping it that doesnt work behind your oil filter is a lil pressure release valve so if the filter plugs then it bypasses the filter. Before the rebuild did you spin a rod bearing or something with metal shaving in the oil????

If so there a good chance that valve is plugged that would cause no pressure in the top of the engine. I would pull the filter off take a flash light look at the lil valve just look for any type of metal shavings.

I hope this is and ld9 (2.4) iam assuming anyway.

this was a junk motor from a guy who spun a bearing on the crank. i took it apart had a machine shop work on the block and clean it out with new freeze out plugs ect.

You would think when a machine shop bakes and cleans a block that they would clean it out, these days u never know, i will check that the second i get home.

took another look at the engine today, turns out the pump is working, there is oil in the filter and the balancer shafts are turning, which means the pump is turning.

another note couldnt see a valve behind the filter, another hints on what it looks like, or if its at the top or botton behind the filter?

also what would stop the oil from reaching the top of the engine??? Someone told me that the balancer must be installed correctly??? i thought it was just 5 bolts and bam its in. Is there a certain way it should be "load" or installed and would that give me this headache?

Tonight i took the balancer off and check the oil passage for and clogs and checked the valve behind the filter both were fine. So i put it all together crank the engine over with the plugs out and the fuel off and the oil pressure sensor out, and about 2 min of crank the engine i had oil pressure, but i guess the damage was already done. I have a lil tick im guessing the lifters are the issue now. But at least i have oil pressure.

or a bearing??? What are you getting for pressure now and how long was it run before you had any oil pressure ????? 2 min of cranking seems a lil odd.

Dont have the pressure gauge with me now. my buddy took it back. Total time is around 2 min of running with no oil pressure. And two min of on and off cranking. i would crank for 10-15 seconds and wait and repeat.

there is a check ball valve in the 2.4 heads that needs to be cleaned of debris when doing head gaskets so maybe it that it
