This is just something ive been wondering about. You always see these stis, wrxs, and wat not spittin flames. i was just wonderin if theres any sunfires or cavies out there doin the same thing. and if so how by running rich?
hahahahaha
the old school method is to run an injector and a spark plug to the tail pipe. jet the carb ritch and and set the ignition timing back.
typically backfires are caused by an accumulation of feul in the exaust mani and the ignition retard that takes place when you let out the gas. the retard in the timing causes the flame in the cylander to still be going when the exaust valve opens. which is why you only really get backfires when you have revved really high and suddently let the throttle out. and you are more likely to get backfires if you do not have cats cause the cat will block them.
from a preformace standpoint, backfires=wasted power IMO. though it is kind of funny to have they guy you were just racing tell you he seen a 3 foot flame shoot out every time you shifted

Those so naive, so hard headed, so narcissistic, that think that buy their own efforts can single handedly change the world, are always the ones that do.
you can buy a kit to do so too i believe, but i dont think its road legal

no its not necessarily a bad thing. if the car isnt tuned and its backfiring then it is. if the cars tuned thats anothr story. and i would never want something on my car where i press a button to shoot flames thats ricey. i just wanted to know what kind of mods would cause it to naturally happen with our cars. if it would.
