hey everyone...
just a question about custom exhaust setups...
what did you guys and girls do for an exhaust flange? how did you bolt it up to the cat pipe?
im planning a custom exhaust setup on my 97 LD9 that is going to bolt up to my cat pipe, atleast for the time being. its going to be a 2.25 in system using the walker quietflow muffler and an undecided resonator.
anyways, i wanted to know what did you do for an exhaust mounting flange? how did you bolt it up to the cat pipe? did you just give everything to an exhaust shop and say, go nuts? did you cut the old pipe and use that old flange? im ordering in all mandrel bends and just any straight pipes i can get, so im just looking for pointers.
any answers, let me know.

Are you saying that you wanna fab an exhaust that bolts directly to the 3 bolt trangular flange on the cat?
I bought
THESE on ebay... im sure that seller has something that will work for you

thats exactly what im saying. i would rather buy another flange so i can leave my stock exhaust whole rather then cut it off and wled the new one on at the flange. are all the three bolt opening the same size or will i run into problems going from the stock 1 7/8" 3 bolt flange to a 2 1/4" flange?

You could absolutely use the old one, but if you're installing an SS exhaust, it will promot rust when welded to it. You could make your own flange very easily if you have the right tools, too. It really does depend on the material you're using and a few other things. We usually eliminate the flanges altogether when we build exhausts, though. It's just one more spot where a potential leak could arise.
