After almost a year of not having an Ecotec and being on these forums, I've decided I want to come back. I'm planning on buying an 03-05 j-body, regardless of how good condition the engine is, in maybe a year or so once the prices drop below 5k for a body in good condition (interior and exterior). I am planning on buying a new crate and swapping it in there, but building up the whole engine. I know I'd get a lot of power with boost, but I want to stay N/A on this one. I would go ahead and just get a 2.2 and put it in there, but I have no experience or knowledge on the 2.4, and I was wondering if that engine has more potential. I know the 2.4 has a good amount of extra power, but does it have potential of a 2.2, aftermarket wise (cams, pistons, bolt-ons, etc.)? And would the 2.4 make a direct fit in an 03-05 body or would it need new engine mounts and the tranny that comes with the 2.4? Thanks in advance.

Without starting a ecotec VS LD9 thread, I would say if you are buying a 2002-2005 stick with the eco. I have never heard of anyone swapping a 2.4 in place of an Eco. If you think you'd like a 2.4 more than buy 96-2001/2..... hell even if you think you'd like a W41 or an H.O. buy a 95 cav and swap it in. (OBD1)
There are probably more bolt ons for the eco than for any other motor thats in a J.

Im pretty sure the 2.4 eco is drive by wire and also very hard to swap over. I wouldnt think it would be worth while for 30hp.
Why dont you just buy a cobalt? You could probably find one in your price range, I dont think they have alot of aftermarket support though.

Nah I really want a J-Body, Sunfire or Cavi. I know it's drive by wire, but would it really be a big hassle to swap over?
My main concern is, will the 2.4 Eco fit smoothly into the engine mounts and the 5sp tranny?
Thanks for your help so far though.
