2000 Cavalier 2.2 intake

This may seem like a stupid question, but can anyone tell me how hard it is to take out all of the factory plastic around the throttle body, etc etc and the stock filter housing and put in either a short ram or cold air intake? Any help would be appreciated.

hahah actually it is EXTREMELY HARD.... only trained professionals should have access to under the hood....

hehe joking,

actually just get an 8mm socket on the end of a screw driver handle, and about 10 minutes of time. and you should be good to go.

yeah i did it to mine, just also make sure you have all the pieces you need to put the new one in before ripping out the old air box.

make sure you save the O2 sensor because those are expensive to replace!

I think that was suppose to be on par with something along the lines of "checking your blinker fluid reservoir "

I have an IAT (intake air temperature sensor) on my intake, theres no reason to have an O2 sensor though...

on the 2000 2.2 non ecotec engine when i installed my SW intake it was a matter of a phillips head screwdriver and a wrenchset.first start by unplugging your IAT. then, i had to move the battery and move the fuse box a little and the air box came right out. be gentle with your IAT sensor as you dont wanna rip that out when ur tryin to remove the air box.(as it requires a little persuasion)use your 8mm wrench to loosen the 3 or 4 bolts holding the 2200 box on. loosen the clamp on the throttle body.remove the old intake. take your new intake and start at your throttle body and work your way up.the 2.5" side of the piping coupler goes on the throttle body. make sure your clamps are tight. make sure your intake piping does NOT touch any part of the engine. (alot of kits ive seen come with brackets to prevent this) then use the rubber grommet from your stock box if your intake didnt come with one for your IAT. I used a flathead screwdriver to get the half of the grommet in without getting stuck. and last put your filter element on where it doesnt touch anything then tighten the clamps and connect in the vaccuum hose from the intake to the valve cover. Now the engine might throw a code at you so people leave their battery disconnected for 20 or so minutes and then reconnect it this should give the computer a chance to register it and solve the problem. i kinda went on there i know..but this should be everything you need for a smooth install. hope this helps. any questions or if im wrong just ask lol.

While you're at this, search here for a reference to Ram-Air! (Type it like you see it here.) This is a lost art that should be learned by any & all low-buck performance auto builders out there who are serious about geting the most from what they have. And are willing to prove their skill level is beyond just "boltin' 'n' bangin'".

Go beyond the "bolt-on".
