gen II L61 to generation I interchangability?

I recently aquired a motor out of an 07 cobalt, I figured I could use the lower end in my 05 cavalier, Now I know that the crank wheels are different so I wasnt planning on using it but everything else should work just fine right?

everything else should be identical

you would have to swap the cranks from one to the other.. kind of a pain in the ass unless you're throwing an eagle crank and forged stuff in there

if I'm not mistaken, i do not think they changed to much between 05 and 07...

the biggest changes were 02-03 and 04-05 I believe...

actually theres quite a change to the 07s

In addition to the wheel being a 58x the 07s also use the Gen 2 eco block, which has larger coolant passages, the Gen 2 eco block was first introduced in the LSJ and then used in the LE5

The ignition system is totally different in the 07s they now use the same coil on plug system that the 2.4 and LSJ ecos are using, they can be retrofitted im sure to the 01-06 waste spark coil pack setup

Cylinder heads have bigger exhaust ports also so the head is a bit better

somewhere on here theres a list of what all is different, i cant find it since this site runs slow as hell
