Good price on a modded 086 head?
Monday, December 24, 2007 5:56 PM
i'm talkin to a guy that has a 086 head for sale for 250 plus shipping. He said "the head was blended/smoothed in the cumbustion chamber, and then smoothed/polished in to the ports with some nice bowl blending. teh runners are stock where the gaskets surfaces are. 1 spark plug hole has been helicoiled and it also has all new seats in it it. may be guides too, hard to tell they are in perfect condition adn it has never been assembled since the work was done. its crack free, and has been milled(just a clean up cut) so the surface is flat." Sound like a good price? will the helicoil hold up to 15-20 psi of boost that i plan to run on my 2.4??

I got mine with Manta HO Spec Valves + HO Spec Springs, and fresh all cleaned up for around that price, so it seems fine.

he told me today he'd thorw in new true GM valves, retainers and keepers, and rotators for an extra $130. Only thing im worried about is the helicoil. Im afraid of it blowing out or something when under boost.

Is it from ZPPR?

He is a great guy to deal with. I highly doubt the helicoil could blow out under boost.

yea its the one from him. Hes askin over at Quad4forums too about the helicoil. Guy over there said that he had a head with a helicoil it the spark plug kept melting electrods off.

Didnt see that post yet. I just bought a 086 head form him as well. It looks great and he does do a great job with shipping. Not sure why a helicoil would cause the electrode to melt off though, odd.

would any of you be interested in a quad head that had the castings between the valves on the combustion chambers cleaned off? for low compression to run higher boost? just curious!

what i did instead of having a helicoile installed is a steel insert it cost me about $60 my mechanic said it would withstand a cummings diesel with twin turbo's so running 15-20 boost shouldnt bother it
but have the helicoile removed

(it was on my plymouth breeze) the previous owner used the wrong spark plug in cylinder one and when i pulled the plug to replace it the threads came with.

for the $60 it's well worth boing instead of shooting a spark plug through the hood
