Hey guys/gals,
I was just wondering how everyones coil conversion i made is working out for them... I have not heard any feedback either way and was just curious how its working out for everyone.
I want one for the L61....
thank you!
I'll be making one soon :-)

What is the point of this. Is it supposed to give a stronger spark and be les resistant to spark blowout or what. This would make it easier to get a tach signal on the dyno right?

i could have sworn the reason for it was to get the spark plugs out from under the IDI cover so they donot get heat soaked on hot days at the track and such.

OHV FTW!
I have nothing good to add, as I don't really know what theyre for.
However, I have a 2200 ICM if anyone wants it
Im using all stock ohv parts right now, with ngk tr55's. I plan to get just a universal msd wire kit soon.
I was wondering if msd gm 2 tower coils would work with the stock 2.2 icm? Im talking about more universal coils for like gm v6's?

But I don't want any parts from the 2.2turd on my uber-high quality DOHC

The MSD part number 8224 I believe is what youre talking about. I have them, yes they do work.
These
simple.
2.4 coils with NGK TR6's gaped at .028, spark blow out at 6300 RPM.
2.5 coils (older team GREEN mod.) no blow out at 7200.
cleaner start ups too.

I have them on mine, and as you know Tom, I'm very happy with them.
Benefits to the coil conversion:
- Coils away from heat of engine
- No longer using bs coil springs to fire plugs
- Higher voltage capacity
- MUCH easier to remove IDI cover (personal preference)
The higher voltage capacity was what made me do this modification... from what I remember when I did research stock coils were good to 18,000 - 20,000 volts... MSD coils are good to 40,000...
In conjunction with my MSD-DIS 2... that's a lot more potential sparking power. Also, keeping them away from heat always helps.
Without the MSD-DIS2 this modification did a lot for cold startup, idle, and overall smoothness.... with the DIS-2 I now have a better setup to combat spark blowout at 25+ psi of boost.
Also, my mileage went up a bit with the coil conversion, as it's a stronger / better spark with the upgraded coils.
Once again, thanks Tom. *thumbsup*

hello was wondering if u had a wiring diagram for the coil conversion and msd-disc2 set up
My Coils are from a 4-Tec 2.5.
I was cheep and had it laying around, threw it and Brian and Tom, (becasue we where at My famleys heated shop in december) and siad DO IT NOW.
and there is the story of how the TG coil swap started.

THATS why i spelt it with the sIAd.. so it sounds like "and Sahd DO IT KNOWAH."
But ya, we should have gotten that pic of all the TG cars in the shop.....
if i rember right, Brians car was the only one geting "worked" on.
LOL

I would like some more information on this coil conversion. I have issues with the GM S/C kit. INformation on either the team grean or MSD conversion.
Regards,
Here is some information on the subject.
They work great and have had the setup for about 3 years or so.
Not a single problem with the setup and the car starts instantly, on the first turn of the engine as opposed to the 3rd or 4th turn with the stock setup.

Thank you Dave and JBO!

Im looking for a solution for mis-fires with the Gm S/C kit. Ill lookup the information you listed above.
Personally, I'd like to apply this relocation mod to my dime's tu-tu. The shorter sparkplug wires will equal less resistance, which will mean more juice at the plug. Is Team Green still makin' the kits for this in the '94 style trim? If so, put me down for one!
Go beyond the "bolt-on".
Does anyone know if there is a MSD kit for this that just plugs in? You know, no cutting, splicing, wiring etc etc.
I have read many many posts during my search to maybe do this to my 2.4L b/c I'm still getting mis-fires during WOT w/the GM S/C kit.
I read in one post during my search that there was a harness. But the guy didnt say who or what or where to get it.
Any information would be appriciated.
ive had this mod for about a year now and my car still doesnt start up on the first try. what am i doing wrong? im running autolite platinums with the stock gm coils and magstar 8.8mm wires
