Autozone Employees...I need a little help

This is probably the wrong forum to post this, but it is somewhat performance oriented, and this forum gets more traffic...so...

I'm looking at the Autozone website, and for a camshaft kit, this is the part number that shows up for both the 90-94 Chevy Berretta and 93-94 Olds Achieva (Quad 4 HO Engines).

-OL2.3CK07 (Hi Tech Camshaft Kit)

The single camshafts themselves are the same for each car as well

-MC1235 (Melling Intake)
-MC1236 (Melling Exhaust)
-901001 (Hi Tech Exhaust)
-909901 (Hi Tech Intake)

I thought I remember someone saying that Autozone can get new w41 spec cams, but that can't be true unless it is another special order number not available online. Anyone who works there know if it is possible to get new w41 spec cams from the Achieva SCX?

The people at autozone dont know what they are talking about. I know this 1st hand. One guy even called my ECOTEC a VTech. Needless to say i refuse to go there anymore.

try explaining to them you need the intake manifold and TB gasket set from a 92 pontiac grand am GT 2.3L, so you can swap it on your 99 cavalier.
And then try to get Cam Carrier gaskets from them.

It blows their mind.

I talked to maybe 2 managers, and none of them could understand why i would want the gasket set from a '92 grand am, but put it on my 99 cavalier. And why i would need TWO manifold gaskets. And at the same time need cam carrier gaskets for a 99 cavalier.

I had all the part numbers, and i gave them ahead of time. But none of the part numbers (which i pulled off this site) matched up with the gaskets i needed.

So that leaves me with one other option before i completely determine i wasted money on gas getting to autozone..... explain my situation and HOPE HOPE HOPE they know what button to press on that retards database that is easier than type2learn.

The ld9 was probably the last production engine to use cam carriers, as most OHC engines now have the cams placed dirrectly into the head...so I guess I could understand their confusion. A far as the two gaskets, did you explain to them that you were using a spacer between the head and manifold?

If I can't get a straight answer, I guess I'll just settle for HO cams. Thanks guys.

Way to categorize every AutoZone employee , and no you do not know first hand, because you have never been to every AutoZone.

I had a woman that work at Autozone give me all kinds of crap when I told her I wanted a timing chain tenshioner for a 96 2.4 when my car is a 97 when I was doing my secret cam recently..... She was actually being such a bitch about it that I almost told her off....... quess what... my engine is a 96 .... although I didn't know that at the time and I just wanted one for a 96 because they are eisier to use and honestly a better design....

Also for some reason the words two four have to come out of my mouth 4 times before they remember my Sunfire has one.... which is why I just tell them I have a Z24 instead since there computers usually show that they have a 2.4 from the start.

Hmm i seem to have offended a know it all autozone employee. Im sorry i am a dumb@ss. I'll take my comment back if you can plz get me the part number for some RX-7 valves. Or maybe recommend a good quality muffler bearing for my 03' cavalier.

How do you know i havent? What if i went all across the country to survey auto part stores? Hmmmm you must know. I mean who knows more about MY life that YOU? I think i have a stalker, im flattered.

Yes i used to shop there, but i got tired of the idiots, always getting the wrong part when they swore it was the correct one, and the horrible selection.

Sorry to the OP about the direction this thread went, I wasnt expecting people to join my view on Autozone. I personally only know about the 2.3 cams for the 2.4, but i havent researched the 2.4. My advise would be to get them somewhere online(if you can). Someone plz help the OP out, i feel like a total dick for ruining his post. I PMed ya with something that will hopefully help.

why not go through a company on here for some really good cams?

Used to work there. No parts chain/jobber has or will ever carry W41 cams. Standard LG0s, yes, W41, no.

Because JBP is currently the only company making "performance cams" for the ld9 and both the HO and w41 cams exceed theirs in lift. I need the higher lift to make better use of the 086 head. I have considered the HG2's but that would more than likely make the car slow as hell with the tall 3rd gear of the 4t40e. I'll either be going with w41's or HO cams depending on whether or not I can find w41's new.

I'll probably just get the HO kit since it is hard to beat getting 2 cams and 16 lifters all brand new for $260. Thanks again guys.

You get the same looks from the dealership part guys when you go looking for toyo cav parts.

Re: Autozone Employees...I need a little help

This is the way most parts sotres I go to are, unless its a friend of mine working there which normaly have atleast an idea.

I go in to buy ngk plugs the other day, tell him I need 4 tr6's. So he has to go through the vecicle appliction process, then brings me the wrong plugs. So I tell him what i need, and 5 minutes later comes back with them; which they were prolly right next to the ones he grabbed. Ive learned to try not to explain myself, but in some cases like this I had to tell him why I wanted them for his dumba$$ to go get them.

I work for autozone and usually find it the other way around, people that come in have no F'ing clue what they are talking about. I think alot of the times it depends where your located. I go to college in a small town where all of the people here make less than i do as a full time student working part time, and are complete idiots. As far as our database goes, yes you ALWAYS have to go through vehicle specification because thats how the parts are listed. Cross referencing on our system is a shot in the dark most of the times! Oreillys has a better system then autozone and i have worked for both, so i dont think that Tinkles you should categorize all employees like that even though most of the times its usually 16 kids that dont know working. I personally hate the job to tell you the truth and most times i help someone they are trying to mod something so i have to basically get an explanation so that i can help them better instead of guessing and throwing parts at the guy. When people come in with part numbers and specific parts then its cake and they go on their way! thats my .02.

-end of rant

i do the same thing now, i dont explain things i just say this is what i need dont ask they will be like what car is it for, i just say here is the part number cross it for me. or i just lie and say yes i drive a 93 grand am gt please tell me if you can get me these cams and these gaskets. most of the time i dont get a hassle but sometimes the guy wants to be a big shot and question my knowledge, esp the local advance auto guys. just try and not get frustrated with them... i no im a stubborn bitch and love to go off, ive had my friends be like wtf dude u were mean to that guy, so lately ive been good i just dont like to be told things esp when they are wrong. one time i was told there was no such thing as cam tower, carrier, whatever u wanna call them gaskets for a 2.4, the guy was like seriously you see that red cavalier z24 parked out to the side, ya its mine, it has 230hp to the wheels n/a, so i should tell you i no my cavaliers and 2.4's.... sometimes people cease to amaze me.

Like i said, i researched the part numbers, presented them with them, and they said the part number is fictional.
The only thing left after that gets shot down is attempt to get through to someone who MIGHT know what's going on.

This is why i order parts online.
And use RTV Copper Gasket maker.

JerseyKid, im still waiting on those part numbers.

Hmmm born in 88' and is a college grad? It does seem like we have a know it all here.
Wait but your myspace says that your still in college, which is it? Im confused.

BTW if you DO work for Mercedes, then y do you take offence to my opinion?

If i should be going back and forth with someone, it should be Luis, but he sounds like the 10% of Autozone employees that actually know what they are preaching. I wish he would move to my town so when i did go in there i wouldnt lose my mind.

Haha. Please, the 5 year old car jokes weren't worth responding too. Nice originality. .

I went to Technical College, want a picture of my degrees? I haven't updated my myspace, because i couldn't careless about it. And who said i took offense to your opinion?

I didn't at all, i was just making a point.

You have not been all to the autozone's so it was pretty stupid to categorize everyone like that, i know a few kids that work at the local autozone, that would have been able to help the original posters questions.
