Hi everyone,
I was just wondering if anyone could help/give me hints on how i can make my 2005 Cavalier faster and sound better for somewhat of a resonable price?
I will take any Idea's.
Thanks to all who read this.
Rich
whats size engine? 2.2 or 2.4
and i so is it a 5 speed?or automatic
Hey Jimmy
i have an Automatic 2.2 eco-tec.
could you help me out?
Rich
thanks for writing
well if i were u i would invest in a cold air intake
then i would get better headers for your exhoust
then mabey get the piping bigger for the cat
i think its normally 2.25 id get it 2.5 then a nice muffler
u could also get stiffer motor mounts
idk much about the cam and every thing but im learning
mabey a bigger cam
but if it was a 5 sped u could get short throw shifter
lighter flywheel
performance clutch
but i guess what i siad would be the basics
idk dnt take it all from me just keep reading forums and stuff
ok.. sounds good. what do you think about exhaust? any idea's?
lol...your stock piping is not 2.25 ........but it would be a good little upgrade if you go with the 2.25...i've read on here the 2.5 is pretty much used when boosted.....
what may be a good sounding exhaust for the cavalier
well for the exhoust personly i like magnaflow
for my exhoust i have a 4-2-1 pcaesetter header and i got the cat to 2.5 and im in the procces in putting a resonater and ordering a maganflow muffler
what is a 4-2-1 pcaesetter header
its the headerthat comes of the engine
it has 4 pipes that goes to the 4 exhoust holes in the engine
then those 4 pipes go in to 2 pipes then those 2 pipes go to one pipe so it can let out more exhoust and have a little better tourqe
4-2-1 preety muc means it goes from 4 pieces to 2 pieces to 1 piece
a good mod would be cold air intake and exhoust
and this isnt for the exhoust but you could get stronger ingition coils
nology spark plug wire
and better plugs
to make a hotter spark
A 4-2-1 header goes from 4 pipes to 2 to 1 to the downpipe. Whichever exhaust system you choose, get a resonator, it will prevent that raspy sound. 2.5 exhaust isn't really necessary unless you plan on making it a track car (if you're doing modifications just to make it fun to drive, 2.25 is more than enough). The intake and exhaust are pretty much the biggest bang-for-your-buck items.

It is also called an Exhaust Manifold...It is what takes the burnt fuel (ie.exhaust) from your motor and sends it through you Exhaust pipe, to your catalytic converter (which some what cleans the exhaust to make it safer for the environment, and kills power by restriction..LOL), which then goes to a resonator to quite, and deepen the sound, it then goes through another pipe to your Muffler (which also helps to reduce noise among other things) and then it sends it out into the air...I think you should go to the newbies section and use the search button in forums before posting....it good to see new people but you gotta watch what you post....or you could be in for it...
that is your whole exhaust set-up before you post again.. the header is the first of many.....pacesetter is just a brand, there is also, OBX, DC sports, RKsport, and so on....
4-2-1 means 4 ports to 2 ports to 1 ports, which is better for mid range power, there is also a 4-1 ( i hope you get this), which is better for high end performance....

Ron will it sound better and will i no somewhat of a diffrence?
and thank you both Jimmy and Rob
what the B&M shift?
all that does is impove how it shifts
It raises the line pressure and makes the shifts more firm and quicker.
It has three presets, stock, 1, and 2
I got one from the local Advance for about $35, it is actually for a Camaro/Firebird.
I've had mine for about 2 years now and it is definitely worth the money. Check it out...

Performance Parts For Cavalier, Sunfire, Cobalts and More!!!
weight reduction, cheapest performance out there I've lost 235 lbs still have full interior minus acces to rear seats due to fixed racing seats still looking around the car for more weight to take off...
light weight racing seats, remove all sound deadening material light weight carpet remove spare tire, baby seat holder, 1/2 tank gas at all times, smaller battery, remove intake bong, lightweight cai, etc, etc, depending on how far you want to go you can really lower your lbs. per hp raito. stock base model:
2680lbs /140 crank hp = 19.1... lbs. per hp
235:lbs weight reduction:
2445 lbs /140 crank hp = 17.4... lbs. per hp
which would be about equal to:
2680 lbs car with 154 crank hp = 17.4...lbs per hp
basically like adding 14 hp not even including my intake exhaust, pulleys, etc. that I have
great thing about this is that it is also throughout the entire rpm range, mayby not 14 hp at every rpm, you would have to calculate what hp your car makes at a certain rpm and then calculate the ratio for that power minus the weight (Im not taking the time to do that) but you get the idea, its good for better acceleration through the entire rpm range
