matching the stock mls gasket to ported head/turbo mani...

im just wondering if this is something commonly done on our cars? i had my ld9 head ported, not a whole lot, but enough to definitely notice a difference in size while comparing to stock. also having my turbo manifold matched to the head (pry having it opened a tad larger actually). i just would like it all to be right the first time and dont want to have any flow issues...

how much should i have taken out of the gasket? should it be matched to the manifold ports as they will be a little bit bigger?

could this be done using something as simple as a file?

Yup, match it to the biggest port. As long as the edge is smooth everything will seal up fine, the gasket itself isn't really held together by much other than the tiny rivet things around the bolt holes.

edit: I guess you could do it with a file, but I think a die grinder/dremel and some stone bits or even sandpaper rolls would be best. I don't have the patience to do the whole thing with a file I know that for damn sure. Maybe just for the fine tuning on the port matching.
