Im sure most of you have read my other posts about installing the HO cams and Blower
I just called around for some prices on Parts i need while doing my cams and blower.
Here are the GM parts from the Dealer
Water Pump - $149.75 Head Gasket Set - $348.25
Timing Chain parts
Tensioner - $130.25
Tensioner Shoe - $13.05
Tensioner Guides - $53.25
Head Bolts - $140.00
Another Parts supplier in town
Water Pump - $54.01 made by Fenco which is remanned Head Gasket Set - made by Felpro $160.03
Timing Chain parts
Tensioner - $36.74 made by Seal Power
New timing chain and sprockets- $ 70.60
Head Bolts - $33.58
Now ive heard of people running the Felpro without problems so i was planning on using that to save quite a bit on the gaskets
What about the rest of the parts can i trust a reman water pump?
Head bolts should i go with the Felpro ones or get the ARP studs? Like to save money if i can
How are the seal power parts such as the Tensioner and Chain and Sprockets are they trustworthy?
If im not going to change the chain and just the tensioner do i need to change the guides? Are you guys changing the chains? How is sealpower?
All help is appreciated
Thanks

Get Fel Pro gaskets I have had great luck with them.
Go with ARP head studs, contact Karo, he carries them for the 2.4L
Seal Power brand is again a good brand, and has been around for years. (I am sure 1 company makes them all and they are just "re named")

350 for a headgasket set ?!! whoa! i got mine from the dealer and it was only like 130
See thats why I keep going to ttr and recomend them. The above statement says it all.
I know you can get just the Felpro head gasket at discount Auto for $10, but that is just the head gasket. I know one of the normal auto parts stores carries a new water pump for about $50. As for tensioner I always get mine at AutoZone I believe for like $33.

Agreed, go to autozone, napa, car quest, who ever is cheapest get it. Again, I am sure they are all made by the same place, just re named...

Ya i dont really wanna run a Reman Water pump
What kind of brands of pumps are you guys getting?
Tensioner i will look into at Napa tomorrow see what they have to offer
What are your feelings on the Chainer and Guides and Sprockets? Do they need to be changed
I just did my waterpump the weekend between christmas and new years, got a brand new one for 30.95 from rockauto.com, part number aw5076. It now says discontinued, but it is worth the try. I replaced just one piece at a time before, so from the voice of experience (every one will say it too) replace it all while your in there. Cheap insurance. You can get it all for about 250 (what i did) including shipping if you look hard enough. Though gaskets are usually cheaper to get locally, best of luck on the build man.
I better hope and pray my water puymp does not go then. I had no idea there were issues with them at the time I did my build so I have the stock water pump with 68,000 miles on it.
You might want to consider replacing the timing chain and crank and cam sprockets if you are wanting to go all out.
I bought all my gaskets timing chain parts and the 2.3 oil pump and lifters and cam from autozone

Ya sucks we don't have an autozone up here
What brand were they Wade?
I think the timing chain and sprockets are only 70 bucks or so
go check on rockauto.com, they have good price on gm oem parts.
timing set from northern auto part at around 130 for a full set!!
I'm running the sealed power timming chain/sprocket/tensioner and guide on the 12:1 quad. They look just like OEM.

The majority of the cost of the head gasket kit is the valve stem seals.

not really part number at rock auto is SS728071 for Fel-Pro at under $60 bucks. though again get there shipping price and compare locally and see which is the better deal.
I worked at Baxter auto parts (Advanced auto parts) for 5 months last semester and there are only 2 or 3 makers of seals/bearings/and the like. Sealed power and Fegual Mogel (sp?) to name the two we carried. Its all good stuff and is OEM quality.
