Is there a write up or something definitive on swapping an ecotec in a pre 2000 manual cavi? I cannot find the information I am looking for.. I saw a write up on how to do the 2000-2002, but not anything before that...
anyone?
That info has been posted many times in different areas of this site. I know the one thread in the 3 gen forum talking baout 00+ cars has the info as well.

I just basically found it.. I would have to basically find a donor car, and swap all the wiring, the fuel tank, etc... @!#$ all that.. lol... wwwaaaaayyyyy too much...
Buy the engine (ecotec), mounts, and a ecotec getrag tranny, and switch the computer/wires, and the shifter assembly and you are good to go...

Its a bitch, i'll tell ya that much! I have 4-5 wiring harnesses kicking around in my possession right now for this swap. I'm going auto to manual so i've had a little more to do and also i'm stripping the paint on my car under carriage and other surface rust spot problems only i know exist on the car in hidden areas.
But still if you have any questions or need to know anything just PM me and i'll help ya out best i can since i'm in the same boat.

Little more than that on a pre 2000 car.

sell the car then buy a 2000 and do the swap
much easier.
or, run a stand alone in the earlier years.

I would say if anyone were to do this and didn't have a car yet, I would get a 2000+ since its alot easier, but if you already have a pre 2000 car, you are going to need the whole body harness with bcm, dash, instrument cluster, shifter assembly, center console, hvac setup, gas tank and lines, charcoal canister, radiator, engine, trans, engine harness and ecm, motor mounts, if swapping to a getrag you will need the front mount from Turbo Tech Racing and the rear mount from the dealer, also you will need a new clutch master cylinder, you will have to adapt you headlights to the new wiring unless you do a headlight swap too. I know I have probably forgotten some things.
It may sound like a lot to do but once you get the car stripped of everything and start putting the new stuff in it goes pretty good, don't get me wrong there is going to be things that will make you want to stop, but you just have to keep going and it will be worth it when its done.
yah it is alot but it isnt overly hard. the hardest part of the whole hthing has been welding in new mounts which arent hard at all.
i'd say wiring up the standalone, cutting the frame, building the turbo header, fitting a downpipe, and finding axels that worked was harder than welding in 3 mounts
watch for flying sparks!!!
have you bought the car yet, i know awhile back you were still debating on what to buy,,,, if you havent, just save up a little more and save yourself the hassle and buy an 02, im sure you could get a good price
hop on in i've got a J
Here's a fair (And related) question: Do the mounts used on the Eco-tec for placement in the Soltice/Sky interchange (fit in the receivers of) the gen-II S-10? I ask this as there are alot of us guys with J-car hearts in our S-trucks, and aside from what's transferable from J-body LN2s to build-up performance, we're pretty left out. Many of us would like to do the LN2/Eco-tec swap, and since our trans' are set with the matching bellhousing we're good to go. So, do mounts swap or are we on our own?
Go beyond the "bolt-on".
